The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans’ track and field teams delivered an outstanding performance at the 1A,2A and 3A Southern Regional Meet held May 9 and 10 at Virgin Valley High School, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams finishing second overall. Competing against some of the toughest athletes in the region, the Trojans qualified dozens of student-athletes for the upcoming State Tournament, which will be held May 16 and 17 at Moapa Valley High School. With top-eight finishes contributing points to the team total and the top four individuals in each event advancing to State, Pahrump’s depth and determination were on full display.
Friday’s competition began with a commanding win by the girls’ 4x800m relay team, who finished first in 11:04.33. In the boys’ race, the Trojans secured second place with a time of 8:37.85. The hurdles followed, where Diona Nixon claimed fourth in the 100m hurdles (17.97), while Sasha Strain, despite a stumble at the finish, placed fifth (18.22). Ella Odegard and Kyndra Cardwell both posted personal records to place eighth and fifteenth, respectively. On the boys’ side, Randy Murray ran a personal best of 17.37 to finish fifth in the 110m hurdles.














In the 100m dash, Natalia Vallin finished twelfth with a personal record of 13.62, followed by PRs from Cindal Monahan in 28th and Ella Odegard in 29th. For the boys, Tramaine Burras led the group in 25th place with a time of 12.03, while Randall Murray, James Dela Rosa, and Eric Figueroa Renteria all followed closely.


The girls’ 4x200m relay team sprinted to second place with a time of 1:50.88. In the 1600m, Jules Ondrisko crossed the line first in 5:44.04, followed by Alexis Clouser in sixth and Kaylan Robinson in eighth. For the boys, Joaquin Flores finished 10th, while Josh Gent, Logan Tilley, and Hunter Wydick all recorded solid times, with Gent and Tilley earning PRs.






In the 400m dash, Jules Ondrisko placed third with a PR of 1:01.52. Payton Weaver and Cindal Monahan followed in fifth and ninth, both with personal bests. In the boys race, Ben De Santiago flew into second place with a time of 50.88. Antonio Veloz followed close behind in fifth place with a personal record of 51.48, and Aydon Veloz earned sixth place with a personal best of 52.01. Tristan Schumacher ran a PR of 53.80 to place 14th, rounding out an incredibly strong showing by the Trojans in one of the most competitive events of the weekend.


Saturday’s events opened with the 3200m run, where Kaylan Robinson finished second in 14:16.28. Alexis Clouser earned a fourth-place finish to secure a trip to State, and Alejandra Abarca-Franco followed in fifth. For the boys, Joaquin Flores placed 10th, with teammates Logan Tilley, Josh Flores, and Josh Gent rounding out the field.




In the girls’ 4x100m relay, the team took eighth in 54.08, earning a point toward the team total. The 300m hurdles saw another dominant showing from Ondrisko, who finished second with a PR of 50.52. Sasha Strain and Diona Nixon placed third and fourth, and Ella Odegard ran a PR of 55.80 to take 10th. Jayden Crisler led the boys in the 300m hurdles with a second-place finish and a personal record of 42.94. Wesley Cruff recorded a season’s best to finish ninth, and Ulisses Alvarez placed tenth.



Jules Ondrisko capped off an impressive meet by taking first in the 800m with a PR of 2:34.35. Valery Romero placed fifth, Rosie Miller seventh with a PR, and Alexis Clouser 16th. Antonio Veloz claimed third in the boys’ race with a season best of 2:03.65, followed by Eric Figueroa Renteria in fifth with a PR. Joaquin Flores and Daniel Thompson also contributed strong efforts.


In the 200m dash, Payton Weaver and Natalia Vallin placed ninth and tenth respectively, with Vallin earning another personal best. Cindal Monahan finished 19th. For the boys, Ben De Santiago finished in fifth-place with a time of 23.90. Ulisses Alvarez earned a personal record to finish 27th, followed by James Dela Rosa in 29th and Eric Figueroa Renteria, who also set a personal best, in 31st.
Both 4x400m relay teams finished the meet in spectacular fashion. The girls’ team claimed first with a time of 4:23.15, and the boys repeated as region champions, taking first in 3:31.77.


The Trojans also made their presence known in the field events. In shot put, Hunter Mellinger led the boys with an eighth-place throw of 40-7, followed by Sonny Skinner, Anthony Hunt, and Taysom Christensen, who earned a PR. For the girls, Tiler Ledford threw a PR of 27-4 to finish seventh, while Julie Briggs (PR), Cailyn Marsh, and Jemima Chavez all competed well.








In discus, Brenden Thorn threw 124-10 to place seventh. Hunter Mellinger earned a personal record with a throw of 118-7, securing eighth place, while Sonny Skinner followed in ninth with a mark of 116-8. Anthony Hunt rounded out the group with a 15th-place finish and a throw of 92-2. For the girls, Tiler Ledford delivered a standout performance in the discus, finishing fourth with a strong throw and a PR of 80-6. Julie Briggs added a PR of 24-5 to finish twelfth, while Cailyn Marsh and Jemima Chavez placed fifteenth and eighteenth, respectively.


In high jump, Rosie Miller cleared 5-1 for a first-place finish and personal best, while on the boys’ side, Tristan Schumacher jumped 5-8 for third and Lucas Gavenda hit a PR to place eighth.




Jayden Crisler vaulted 9 feet to finish seventh in pole vault. Kyndra Cardwell competed in girls’ pole vault and cleared 5-6 for 12th. In long jump, Savannah Thompson took fifth with a mark of 14-3. Melanie Carson and Sarah Brown both set PRs in 13th and 15th. For the boys, Crisler tied for sixth with 19-6.25, and Burras jumped a personal best of 19-2. Daniel Thompson and Joseph Scheer also competed.




Crisler closed out his exceptional weekend with a regional title in the triple jump, soaring 44-11.5 for first place. Daniel Thompson set a PR in 16th, with Jace Eichner and Scheer also earning strong marks. In the girls’ triple jump, Savannah Thompson finished second with a 30-5.5 leap, and Sarah Brown added a PR of 24-7.5 to take ninth.



Reflecting on the team’s performance, Head Coach Dan Nagle praised the athletes for their commitment and progress throughout the season. “I said at the beginning of the season we were not expected to do well this year and with grit and determination our team did an amazing job at Regionals! Coming up just a little short of a regional title but every athlete gave it their all. I couldn’t ask for anymore. The future is bright with many freshmen and sophomores stepping up.”
With the Regional Championships behind them, the Trojans now set their sights on the State Meet, ready to compete with the best in Nevada.
