The Pahrump Valley High School boys’ golf team received a heartfelt send-off on the morning of Sunday, May 11, as they departed for the NIAA 3A State Golf Championship in Elko. Friends and family gathered to show their support, joined by members of the Nye County Sheriff’s Office and Pahrump Valley Fire and Rescue, who helped escort the team out of town with lights flashing in encouragement. The spirited farewell reflected the community’s pride in the team’s accomplishments and served as a motivating boost ahead of their two-day competition at Ruby View Golf Course.

The Pahrump Valley High School boys’ golf team capped off their 2025 season with a hard-fought appearance at the NIAA 3A State Golf Championship, held at Ruby View Golf Course in Elko on May 13 and 14. Competing against the top teams from across Nevada, the Trojans finished sixth overall with a two-day combined team score of 715.
Leading the way for Pahrump was Senior Carter Nygaard, who delivered a consistent performance across both days of the tournament. Nygaard opened with a round of 89, then shaved eight strokes off his score on day two with an 81, finishing with a total of 170. His efforts placed him in a tie for 17th individually among the state’s best high school golfers, marking a strong close to his season.

Sophomore Travis Floyd followed with a two-day score of 172, showing dependable play that kept the team in competitive standing. Senior Matthew Lopez contributed a solid 177, rounding out a trio of steady scores that anchored Pahrump’s efforts.

Additional support came from Cayden Cowley, Keir Sheppard and Kamden Moore. While these golfers may not have cracked the top of the individual leaderboard, their perseverance through the challenges of the Ruby View course, as well as the inclement weather, and the pressure of state-level play was a testament to their dedication and growth throughout the season.

Though the Trojans didn’t secure a podium finish, their presence at the state tournament was itself a significant accomplishment, marking continued progress for the program. The team’s performance in Elko highlighted not only their technical skills but also their teamwork, resilience, and competitive spirit—qualities that promise to carry the program forward into next season.
