The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ varsity soccer team continued pressing until the final minutes Wednesday, Sept. 9, earning a 1-1 draw against Boulder City on the road.

Pahrump generated several opportunities during the opening half, beginning with a corner kick four minutes into the match. The Trojans played the ball short before sending a hard attempt toward the goal, but they were unable to convert.

Sydney Crotty helped create another corner kick after being tripped while pursuing a throw-in. Mitzy Godinez moved forward on the ensuing opportunity and struck the ball from distance, sending it just high and to the left of the net.

Senior goalkeeper Jazmyn Herrera helped keep the match scoreless through the early stages. She made a stop with approximately 30 minutes remaining in the half and later came outside the penalty area to break up a Boulder City run toward the goal.

Boulder City nearly scored midway through the half when a shot struck the top of the crossbar. The Eagles eventually broke through with 18 minutes remaining, finishing a run along the right side to take a 1-0 lead.

Pahrump continued looking for an equalizer. Cindal Monahan applied pressure along the sideline, and the Trojans produced shots from both sides of the field during the closing minutes of the half. An attempt from the left slipped beneath the goalkeeper and went out for another Pahrump corner kick.

Herrera protected the one-goal margin shortly before halftime, deflecting an initial Boulder City attempt before the follow-up shot sailed over the goal. The Trojans entered the break trailing 1-0.

Pahrump increased its attacking pressure during the second half. Avery Farruggia carried the ball along the left side to earn an early corner, and the Trojans put several touches together in front of the net before Boulder City’s goalkeeper collected the bouncing ball.

Raylee Smith pursued a rolling ball toward the penalty area, forcing the goalkeeper to come to the edge of the box to intercept it. Pahrump continued advancing through repeated throw-ins along the right side while searching for room to shoot.

Herrera remained steady at the opposite end, making a diving stop with just under 23 minutes remaining. Farruggia later tested the Boulder City defense with a deep shot from the left side that was gathered by the goalkeeper.

The Trojans’ persistence paid off with 5:45 remaining. Melissa Nunez-Ramirez delivered a centering pass from the right wing, and Pahrump quickly returned to the attack. Farruggia then made a run along the left sideline and sent a shot toward the goal, where Paola Aguilar Alarcon finished the play with a touch to tie the match at 1-1.

Pahrump remained active through the final minutes, continuing to challenge for possession and push toward the Boulder City goal. The late equalizer allowed the Trojans to complete their road trip with a well-earned draw.
