The Pahrump Valley High School cross country teams adjusted to a shorter racing distance and delivered several strong performances during the Silver State 3K at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, Sept. 19.
While the Trojans typically compete on 5-kilometer courses, Saturday’s event featured a faster 3-kilometer format. Pahrump’s runners handled the change well, earning two team podium finishes and nine individual medals across the varsity races.
The boys’ Varsity A team placed second among 14 teams with 73 points. Bishop Gorman won the division with 53 points.
Joaquin Flores was the first Trojan across the finish line, placing eighth overall in 9 minutes, 55.2 seconds. Logan Tilley followed just three-tenths of a second later, taking ninth in 9:55.5.
Josh Gent gave Pahrump a third runner among the top 16, completing the course in 10:10.2. Daniel Thompson secured the Trojans’ fourth medal in the race by placing 25th in 10:17.0.
Zander Thompson finished 40th overall with a time of 10:42.2, followed closely by Josh Flores in 41st at 10:44.7. Azael Machuca completed Pahrump’s Varsity A lineup in 46th place with a time of 10:57.8.
The Trojan girls also earned a team podium finish, placing third among 10 Varsity A teams with 92 points. Coronado won the race with 44 points, while Bishop Gorman finished second with 75.
Addi Nelsen led Pahrump with a 16th-place finish, crossing the line in 12:17.3. Sophie Romero placed 20th in 12:21.4, and Ava Bowers earned 23rd with a time of 12:28.1. All three finished among the top 25 to receive medals.
Rosie Miller was the fourth Trojan finisher, placing 35th in 13:12.0. Alexis Clouser followed in 49th with a time of 13:45.2, while Arianna Roberts placed 65th in 15:12.2.
Pahrump’s boys also produced a fourth-place team finish in the Varsity B race. The Trojans scored 178 points to finish fourth among 12 teams, trailing Coronado with 32 points, Lincoln County with 51 and Bishop Gorman with 61.
Juan Carlos Rodriguez and Manny Dupart crossed the finish line nearly together to lead the Trojans. Rodriguez placed 19th in 11:39.7, while Dupart finished 20th in 11:39.8. Both runners received medals for finishing among the top 25.
Kayden Doubleday placed 47th with a time of 12:40.4, Tanner Johnson finished 79th in 14:00.9 and Isaiah Veloz took 84th in 14:15.8.
Tianna Beaver was Pahrump’s lone entrant in the girls’ Varsity B race and completed the course in 23:06.2.
With second- and third-place finishes in the Varsity A races, a fourth-place Varsity B showing and nine individual medalists, the Trojans turned the shorter course into a successful day at Veterans Memorial Park.
