The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ varsity soccer team faced a difficult road test Thursday, Sept. 3, falling 7-0 to the Moapa Valley Pirates.

Moapa Valley established an early advantage, scoring with 38:36 remaining in the opening half before adding a second goal less than three minutes later.

Senior goalkeeper Jazmyn Herrera stopped the Pirates’ next attempt, securing a shot with 33:45 left in the half. Pahrump soon generated an opportunity at the other end when sophomore Avery Farruggia sent a shot narrowly wide of the goal at the 32:12 mark.

The Pirates extended their lead to 3-0 with 16:14 remaining and added another goal at the 6:45 mark. Pahrump continued searching for an opening in Moapa’s defense, and senior Paola Aguilar Alarcon placed a shot on target with 4:45 left, but the Pirates’ goalkeeper made the save.

Moapa carried a 4-0 lead into halftime and scored again less than two minutes into the second half.

The Trojans continued pushing forward and placed another shot on goal with 31:51 remaining, forcing a save from the Moapa keeper. Herrera remained active in front of the Pahrump net, coming off her line to kick away an attempt at the 29:30 mark before catching another shot a little more than a minute later.

Moapa added goals with 26:05 and 24:22 remaining, but Pahrump continued competing through the closing minutes. The Trojan defense forced another Pirates attempt wide with 19:22 left.

Pahrump earned a penalty kick with three minutes remaining, giving sophomore Raylee Smith an opportunity to put the Trojans on the scoreboard. Smith placed the shot on goal, but the Moapa goalkeeper made the save to preserve the shutout.

Despite the result, the Trojans continued creating opportunities in both halves and remained determined through the final whistle against a Moapa Valley team that applied steady pressure throughout the game.
