This year, the Avery Project, led by young philanthropist Avery Sampson and her father, Scott, achieved a significant milestone, donating over 220 bicycles to families in need during the holiday season. The initiative, which began with a desire to bring joy to children and families through the simple gift of a bike, has grown into a large-scale community effort supported by local businesses, volunteers, and donors. The Pahrump Valley High School wrestling team displayed determination and resilience at the Sierra Nevada Classic, held in Reno on December 27-28. Competing against some of the toughest athletes in the region, both the varsity and girls’ teams represented their school with pride, gaining valuable experience in the process. A standout performance came from Oscar Bosket, who excelled in the 190-pound weight class. Despite facing tough competition, the Trojans delivered moments of brilliance that highlighted their growth and potential. Kathie McKenna, Executive Director of No to Abuse-Nevada Outreach Training Organization—often shortened to NOTO—has dedicated herself to leading an organization that serves as a lifeline for those in crisis. This year’s annual “Shop with a Cop” event, hosted by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO), provided a day of holiday cheer and meaningful connections for 22 local foster children. Held on Monday, December 23rd, the event paired each child with one of 21 law enforcement officers for a morning of shopping and bonding.
