For most high school athletes, earning the opportunity to compete at the collegiate level is the realization of years of hard work. For Pahrump Valley High School senior Kayne Horibe, that opportunity also represented a choice between two sports that had shaped much of his life. After spending years excelling in both football and baseball, Horibe recently committed to continue his athletic career at Mesa Community College in Mesa, Arizona, where he will play baseball and pursue a degree in exercise science with plans to become a physical therapist. The commitment marks the next chapter in a journey that has…

After an early strikeout, Santiago A reached on a walk and immediately put pressure on the defense by stealing second. Giovanni N followed with another walk to give…
For Julianna “Jules” Ondrisko, the 300-meter hurdles became more than another event on a busy track schedule. It became the race where she left her mark on Pahrump Valley High School. Ondrisko, a senior for the Trojans, broke the PVHS school record in the 300 hurdles at Regionals, then lowered her own record again at the State Championship meet, closing her high school career with a milestone she had been chasing all season. “It was actually a really big relief,” Ondrisko said. “I thought I had to break 46, and I was like, this is going to be really tough.…

After years of dedication, performances, practices and balancing both competitive dance and high school dance, Brown will continue her dance career at the collegiate level this fall while studying elementary education at UNLV. For PVHS distance runner Joaquin Flores, breaking a school record was never just a passing thought. It was a goal he carried with him throughout the entire season — one that became reality at the Richard Lewis Invitational in Moapa, on April 24, 2026, when he shattered a 21-year-old school record in the 3200-meter run. Flores clocked a time of 9:55.28 in the event, surpassing the previous record of 9:57.30 that had stood untouched for more than two decades. “It was definitely a long-term goal,” Flores said. “It’s really exciting when you figure out that you broke a record somebody…

In the opening game, the Aztecs served as the home team and faced an early challenge from Clark in the top of the first inning. Everett Abelar took the mound for Pahrump and battled through a lengthy…
Ben De Santiago’s name will not appear on the Pahrump Valley High School track and field record board once. It will be there three times. After helping break the school record in the 4×400-meter relay as a sophomore, De Santiago closed out his senior season by adding two individual records of his own, rewriting the marks in both the 400-meter dash and the 800-meter run. For De Santiago, the journey began two years ago with the 4×400 relay team of De Santiago, Jace Wulfenstein, Antonio Veloz and Deven Nixon. After coaches experimented with different combinations early in the season, a…
