The Pahrump Valley High School junior varsity girls’ soccer team earned a 4-0 shutout over the Virgin Valley Bulldogs at home Tuesday, Sept. 1, using a strong second half to pull away.

Both teams created opportunities throughout the match, with multiple shots on goal and saves at each end of the field. The Trojans continued working the ball into scoring position while their defense and goalkeeper kept Virgin Valley from finding the net.

Pahrump broke through late in the first half. With 8:18 remaining before halftime, Christine Williams found the back of the net to put the Trojans ahead 1-0.

The score remained there through halftime, but Pahrump wasted little time adding to its lead after the break.

With 27:02 remaining in the second half, Raylee Smith scored to make it 2-0. Just over five minutes later, Smith struck again, putting another shot into the net with 21:54 remaining and extending the Trojans’ advantage to 3-0.

Pahrump continued generating chances as the half progressed. Brooklynn McMahon put a shot on goal with about 17 minutes remaining, but the Virgin Valley keeper made the save. McMahon challenged the keeper again with 15:35 left, with her attempt deflected away. The Trojans maintained the pressure and earned a corner kick as they looked to add to their lead.

Virgin Valley also continued looking for opportunities at the other end, but Pahrump’s defense held firm and kept the Bulldogs scoreless.

Smith capped the scoring with 7:10 remaining, finding the net for the third time in the second half to complete a hat trick and give the Trojans a 4-0 advantage.

Pahrump protected the shutout through the final whistle, securing the home victory and giving the JV Trojans their second consecutive win after defeating Cimarron-Memorial 2-0 in their previous outing.
