The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ varsity basketball team faced a tough road test on Friday, December 12, traveling to Mesquite to take on the Virgin Valley Bulldogs. Despite the challenging matchup, the Lady Trojans continued to compete with effort and resilience throughout all four quarters.
Virgin Valley came out strong in the opening period, building an early lead. Pahrump’s first points of the night came midway through the first quarter when Riley Saldaña attacked the basket for a layup. While the Bulldogs maintained momentum through the remainder of the quarter, the Lady Trojans continued to battle defensively and look for scoring opportunities.
In the second quarter, Virgin Valley extended its lead, but Pahrump stayed engaged on both ends of the floor. Kaitlyn Brown added a point at the free-throw line, and Aurora Bowers continued to challenge inside, drawing fouls and working to create chances for the Trojans.

The third quarter brought renewed energy for Pahrump. Addi Nelsen knocked down two free throws, and Saldaña found success inside, scoring twice in the paint to help push the Lady Trojans’ total forward. Pahrump’s defensive effort remained steady as the team worked to limit second-chance opportunities and keep pushing the tempo.
Pahrump closed the game with its strongest offensive stretch in the fourth quarter. Saldaña converted from the free-throw line and continued to score inside, while Brown added a basket in the paint. Saldaña capped her night with a smooth mid-range jumper late in the game, highlighting the Lady Trojans’ determination to keep attacking until the final buzzer.

The game ended in a 65–17 loss for Pahrump, but it provided important minutes and meaningful lessons for a young Lady Trojans roster facing one of the stronger teams in the region. Competing against Virgin Valley’s pace and physicality gave Pahrump a clear look at the level of play they are working toward, while also highlighting areas for growth as the season continues. With each road game and challenging matchup, the Lady Trojans continue to build confidence, adjust to varsity competition, and gain experience that will carry forward into upcoming games.
