The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ cross country team closed out an incredible season with a record-breaking performance at the Class 3A State Championships, held Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. The Lady Trojans ran with determination and heart, earning a third-place team finish—the highest in school history for cross country.

Tahoe Truckee claimed first place with 41 points, followed by Lowry with 58. Pahrump Valley finished close behind with 69 points, a testament to their depth and consistency across all seven runners.
Leading the charge for the Trojans was Sophie Romero, who delivered her best race of the season, finishing 10th overall in a time of 22:10. Just seconds behind was Jules Ondrisko, placing 12th with a time of 22:28, and Kaylan Robinson, who took 14th at 22:34. The tight pack running continued with Addi Nelsen in 22nd place (23:32) and Rylan Bliss, finishing 23rd just hundredths of a second later. Rosie Miller crossed the line 28th (24:13), and Savannah Thompson rounded out the Trojans’ effort in 34th (24:31).

Head Coach Erik Odegard praised the team’s grit and unity throughout the championship race. “The state meet was a mix of emotions for our kids,” he said. “We came in with high expectations, and even though we didn’t quite get the top two spots, our kids left everything on the course.”
Odegard highlighted Romero’s standout performance, noting that her strong finish exemplified what the program strives for. “Sophie saved her best race for the last race of the season. This is what we want out of all of our runners. You work all season to be ready for one race, really—and she did that.”
The coach also emphasized the strength of the team’s balance and depth this season. “We had so many new girls join us this year, and every one of them played a part in getting our team to this point,” Odegard said. “The girls built a true team this year where we didn’t know from week to week who was going to be our top runners. That made us so strong.”
That unpredictability continued right through the state meet, where the top five finishers for PVHS differed from the week before at Regionals. “Every girl left it all on the course,” Odegard added. “As a team, our girls gave everything during the state meet. We positioned ourselves for a chance to bring home a trophy, and down to the last few runners, we were right in the mix.”
The third-place finish capped an already remarkable season for the Lady Trojans and sets a new standard for future PVHS cross country teams. “Both teams this year did an exceptional job,” Odegard said. “This season was truly a team effort to a final prize. As we regroup for next year, we hope to build off this season.”
With a blend of returning runners and promising new talent, the future looks strong for PVHS cross country—and this year’s girls have already secured their place in Trojan history.
