The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ basketball team closed out play at the HBCU High School Basketball Holiday Jam with a developmental matchup against the Vegas High School Wildcats on Tuesday, December 23, at Valley High School. With tournament placement decided, the Lady Trojans used the finale as an opportunity to give extended minutes to their bench and build depth for the remainder of the season.
Vegas entered the game after earning runner-up medals in their previous contest, while Pahrump emphasized pressure defense and team development from the opening tip. The Lady Trojans came out pressing early, forcing a turnover on the first possession. Kaitlyn Brown opened the scoring at the free-throw line and continued to attack offensively, converting multiple drives and drawing fouls as the teams traded baskets in the first quarter. Autumn Colon delivered a momentum-shifting play late in the period, stepping in to take a hard charge and keep the game tied at 5–5 after one.
In the second quarter, Brown stayed aggressive in transition, finishing a layup on the run and adding points at the line. Riley Saldaña battled on the boards and earned trips to the free-throw line, while Aurora Bowers competed inside against a physical Wildcats lineup. As the half progressed, Head Coach Bob Hopkins began to rotate more players into the game, with Emily Zaragoza and Cindal Monahan checking in to provide valuable minutes and defensive effort.

The third quarter continued the emphasis on development, with Julie Briggs and Jaycie Hayes entering the game and adding energy on the defensive end. Sydney Crotty drew fouls attacking the basket, and Brown continued to lead by example with her aggressive play. Hayes capped the quarter with a heads-up defensive effort, forcing a jump ball in the final seconds.
In the fourth, Saldaña provided a spark with a strong drive and spin move to the basket, followed by converted free throws. Crotty added a score on an inbound play as the Lady Trojans continued to compete until the final buzzer. Vegas ultimately pulled away late, taking a 33–21 win.

While the final score favored the Wildcats, the game served an important role in the Lady Trojans’ tournament experience. With increased playing time for the bench and meaningful reps across the roster, the Lady Trojans gained valuable experience and confidence as the team continues to grow and develop this season.
