The Pahrump Valley High School cross country team earned a pair of team championships and collected numerous individual medals at the Virgin Valley Invitational on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Clark County Fair and Rodeo Grounds in Moapa.

The Trojans won both the boys’ and girls’ Varsity A races, while Kamden Moore added an individual victory in the Varsity B boys’ race. The top 15 finishers in each race received medals, with each individual champion also receiving a shirt.

Pahrump’s Varsity A boys placed five runners among the top 12 to finish first in the 2A/3A team standings with 36 points, well ahead of runner-up Moapa Valley’s 69.

Joaquin Flores led the Trojans with a second-place finish overall. Logan Tilley crossed next for Pahrump in fifth place, followed closely by Josh Gent in sixth. Daniel Thompson placed 11th, and Josh Flores finished just seconds behind him in 12th, giving all five of Pahrump’s scoring runners medals.

Azael Machuca added an 18th-place finish, while Zander Thompson placed 22nd.

Behind Pahrump and Moapa Valley, Lincoln County finished third with 76 points. Boulder City placed fourth with 106, Founders Academy was fifth with 107 and Virgin Valley finished sixth with 116.

The Varsity A girls delivered an equally strong performance, placing all seven runners among the top 14 and winning the team championship with 29 points.

Addi Nelsen paced the Trojans with a second-place finish, followed immediately by Ava Bowers in third. Sophie Romero added a fifth-place result, while Rosie Miller and Kimberly Trejo crossed in ninth and 10th, respectively.

Alexis Clouser finished 13th, and Anjolina Mercado placed 14th, allowing every Pahrump runner in the race to earn a medal.

Lincoln County finished second in the girls’ team standings with 48 points, followed by Moapa Valley with 65 and Green Valley Christian with 86. Teams were required to have at least five runners to qualify for a team score.

Pahrump also claimed two of the top spots in the Varsity B boys’ race, which included runners from classifications ranging from 2A through 5A. Moore won the race and received both a medal and the first-place shirt, while Juan Carlos Rodriguez followed quickly behind him in second place.

Kayden Doubleday gave the Trojans a third runner among the top four, finishing fourth overall. Alexander Martinez placed 25th, Manny Dupart was 30th, Isaiah Veloz finished 39th and Ace Blumer placed 43rd.

In the Varsity B girls’ race, Ella Odegard led Pahrump with a 12th-place finish, followed by Brandie Blumer in 13th. Both earned medals for placing inside the top 15. Arianna Roberts rounded out the Trojans’ competitors with an 18th-place finish.

Because of a believed discrepancy in the official timing, individual times have not been included. The recorded finishing positions, however, showed a successful day across the lineup, with two team titles, an individual victory and 17 medal-winning performances for Pahrump.
