For longtime Pahrump residents, Kevin Roberts is a familiar name—not from bookstore shelves at first, but from classrooms in the Nye County School District. For more than two decades, Roberts helped shape young readers, guiding sixth graders through stories that sparked imagination, encouraged empathy, and quietly taught lessons that stretched far beyond vocabulary and comprehension. Now retired and living in Pahrump with his wife Kerry, Roberts has returned to those same values through a different medium: fiction. When Calvada Marketplace first opened its doors in Pahrump in July 2024 under the name Boss Babe, it was envisioned as a shared retail space where local vendors could sell their products year-round rather than relying solely on pop-ups and special events. Nine Pahrump Valley High School choir students recently achieved one of the highest honors available to high school vocalists in Nevada, earning selection to the Nevada Music Educators Association (NMEA) All-State Choir and representing their school and community on a statewide stage. The Pahrump Valley Jr. High/High School Rodeo Club is getting ready to bring rodeo action home with a full weekend of competition scheduled for February 6–8, 2026. The hometown rodeo will showcase the dedication and hard work of local youth riders ranging from 5th grade through 12th grade, competing across a wide mix of events.
