A physician serving patients in Southern Nevada has earned international recognition, underscoring both his expertise and the broader impact of cardiovascular specialists in the region.

Dr. Chowdhury H. Ahsan, a cardiologist with Nevada Heart & Vascular Center, has been named chair of the International Committee of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI). His appointment is effective immediately, and he will serve a two-year term in the role.

The position places Dr. Ahsan in a leadership role within a globally respected organization dedicated to advancing the field of cardiovascular medicine and improving patient outcomes.

“Congratulations to Dr. Chowdhury for this amazing global recognition and honor,” said Tony Alamo, chief physician executive and chief medical officer for Nevada Heart & Vascular Center. “This speaks to the amazing level of professional physicians we have selected to be part of our team.”

Originally from Bangladesh, Dr. Ahsan’s academic journey began at Dhaka Medical College, where he earned his medical degree and was awarded a gold medal in medicine. He later received the Commonwealth Scholarship, which led him to the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom, where he completed a doctorate in clinical pharmacology and general medicine.

Before joining Nevada Heart & Vascular Center, Dr. Ahsan served as an associate professor and director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at the University of California Irvine Medical Center. He continues his academic involvement today as a professor of medicine at the University of Nevada Las Vegas School of Medicine.

Dr. Ahsan is board-certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, nuclear cardiology, and interventional cardiology, reflecting a broad and highly specialized skill set in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular conditions.

Nevada Heart & Vascular Center, founded in 1998, is the largest cardiology practice in the state, offering comprehensive cardiac and vascular services, advanced technology, and a state-of-the-art vascular imaging center. The practice also serves patients locally through its Pahrump clinic, located at 1440 E. Calvada Blvd., Suite 700.

Dr. Ahsan’s appointment highlights the caliber of physicians practicing in Southern Nevada and places him among a select group of leaders helping shape the future of cardiovascular care on a global scale.
