The Pahrump Valley High School Cross Country team had an impressive showing at the Red Rock Running Company Invitational on Saturday evening, August 24th. Despite it being early in the season, several Trojan runners achieved personal records (PRs), signaling a strong start for the team.
Among the standout performances, Antonio Veloz led the way for the boys’ team with a time of 17:48, earning him 10th place and a medal. His determination and effort on the course set a positive tone for the rest of the team. Following him, Joaquin Flores finished with a solid time of 19:35, while Logan Tilley crossed the line at 21:44. Nathan Miller posted a time of 22:40, and Sam Grabbe rounded out the personal records of the evening with a finish of 24:34. Although not their PRs, Timmy Stutzman and Isaac Norton also had strong performances finishing in 19:36 and 22:45 respectively.
The invitational also featured a newcomers race, which included several freshman boys competing in a competitive 1.75-mile run. Jacob Seeback made an impressive debut, finishing 10th overall with a time of 10:08 and earning a medal. Josh Gent followed closely with a time of 10:28, and Daniel Thompson completed the race in 10:34, both showing great potential for the future. Additionally, Tanner Gott, Ethan Johnson, Kamden Moore, and Keldan Frederiksen competed in the newcomers race, contributing to the team’s overall depth and showing promise for upcoming meets.
In the girls’ newcomers race, Keelee Gieni stood out by finishing 17th with a time of 12:51, earning a medal for her efforts. Kimberly Trejo also performed well, securing a medal with her 24th place finish and a time of 13:42. Newcomers Ella Odegard and Zion Sutton also participated in this 1.75-mile race, gaining valuable experience.
Returning runners Sasha Strain, Alexis Clouser, and Savannah Thompson showcased their experience and teamwork by running together as a pack in the 5k girls race. They pushed each other throughout the race, narrowly missing out on medals in a highly competitive field. Alejandra Abarca-Franco also competed in the girls’ 5k, adding to the team’s solid presence at the meet. Their efforts demonstrate the depth and camaraderie of the girls’ team.
The PVHS Cross Country team’s strong performances at the invitational reflect their hard work and dedication. With several runners already posting PRs, the team is off to a promising start this season. As they continue to train and compete, the Trojans are sure to build on this momentum and achieve even greater success.
