High Desert Water Systems Delivers Over Two Decades of Excellence in Pahrump’s Water Treatment Solutions

Cindy Colucci, co-owner of High Desert Water Systems, has been serving the Pahrump community with dedication and expertise for over 24 years. Alongside her husband Mike, Cindy has built a business that not only addresses the unique water challenges faced by the residents of Pahrump but also offers reliable, high-quality solutions tailored to their needs.

The story of High Desert Water Systems began in the fall of 2000 when Mike, with extensive experience selling water systems for Kinetico in Phoenix, decided to start a business in Pahrump. He recognized the need for effective water treatment solutions in the area, especially given the prevalence of wells and the challenges associated with them. “We knew there were major water issues out here, especially hardness and calcium, which can really ruin a house, clothes, hair, and skin,” Cindy explains. Mike’s decision to start the business was driven by a desire to provide for his family while serving the community his wife grew up in and he had come to love. He began by going door-to-door, introducing residents to the benefits of water treatment systems, and quickly built a loyal customer base, many of whom still rely on High Desert Water Systems today.

In the early days of High Desert Water Systems, both Mike and Cindy were juggling other full-time jobs to make ends meet, as starting a business like theirs wasn’t an immediate money maker. Cindy worked as a utility manager for her parents’ Best Western, while Mike took on a job at a local car dealership to provide stability for their family. Despite their busy schedules, as the business began to grow, Cindy found herself increasingly involved, learning the intricacies of water treatment through hands-on experience. Eventually, it became clear that the business needed more dedicated attention, and Cindy took over the day-to-day operations—a decision she initially hesitated to make but ultimately embraced wholeheartedly. “It came to a point where Mike couldn’t run the business anymore, and he pleaded with me to quit my full-time job and start running High Desert Water Systems,” Cindy recalls. With training from their water equipment supplier and a strong commitment to excellence, Cindy has since led the business to continued success, serving thousands of customers throughout the valley.

High Desert Water Systems specializes in providing reverse osmosis drinking water systems and water softeners, both of which are essential for ensuring clean, safe, and high-quality water in homes. The reverse osmosis systems, installed at the point of use in the kitchen, provide purified drinking water that is not only economical but also convenient, eliminating the need for bottled water. “You can have your own little water factory right under your kitchen sink,” Cindy says, highlighting the cost-effectiveness and practicality of their systems.

In addition to reverse osmosis systems, High Desert Water Systems offers whole-home water softeners and filtration systems that address a variety of water contaminants. These systems range from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, depending on the specific water problems they are designed to solve. The company’s commitment to quality is evident in the careful selection of products, with Cindy emphasizing the importance of reliability and serviceability. “It’s not all about price; it’s about quality, dependability, and serviceability,” she states, noting that their current systems are user-friendly, sturdy, and backed by solid warranties.

Despite the challenges of operating in a rural area with diverse water issues, High Desert Water Systems has not only developed a reputation for exceptional customer service but also continues to innovate and adapt to meet the evolving needs of their customers. Recently, the company began installing anti-scale, no-salt water conditioning filters—a newer technology that offers an alternative to traditional water softeners, particularly for homes where power or drain availability is limited. In addition to these innovations, Cindy and her team offer valuable services such as the delivery and installation of salt for water softeners, catering especially to residents who may have difficulty lifting heavy bags. “We stay very busy,” Cindy notes, highlighting the continuous demand for their services. The company also provides professional water testing for VA and FHA mortgages, a crucial service for homebuyers in the area.

Cindy’s commitment to exceptional customer service is deeply influenced by her strong ties to the Pahrump community, where she grew up. “This is my home, and I take pride in serving my neighbors with integrity and reliability,” she says, emphasizing the importance of being a trusted local provider. The business thrives on word of mouth, with satisfied customers sharing their positive experiences with others. Cindy also stays actively engaged with the community, whether it’s through her recognizable van adorned with a water drop logo or the reminder postcards she sends out to ensure regular system maintenance.

Looking ahead, Cindy plans to gradually transition the business to her son, Joey Colucci, who has been working alongside her and is preparing to take over in the coming years. “Mama wants to retire,” Cindy laughs, though it’s clear she remains deeply invested in the business’s success. Joey’s involvement ensures that the family legacy of providing high-quality water treatment solutions will continue for years to come.

As Pahrump residents consider upgrading or installing new water systems, Cindy encourages them to reach out to High Desert Water Systems. With free on-site water testing and personalized consultations, the company is well-equipped to address the unique water challenges of the region. “We’re not going anywhere,” Cindy assures, confident in the future of the business she has worked so hard to build.
