Aliana Zuniga represented Pahrump Valley High School with skill and determination at the State Girls’ Golf Tournament, held October 15-16 in Dayton, Nevada. Zuniga finished the tournament with scores of 87 and 86, placing 7th overall, just two strokes shy of earning a medal. Despite challenging conditions on the second day, with rain, wind, and cold weather adding difficulty, Zuniga stayed focused and gave a strong performance.
Head Coach Bob Hopkins praised Aliana’s efforts throughout the tournament, reflecting on how close she was to finishing in the top six. “Ali had four tough holes during the tournament, and that really made the difference in her final placement. But she fought hard, and I couldn’t be prouder of her performance,” said Hopkins.
The competition at State was fierce, with Boulder City’s Emmerson Hinds taking the top spot after shooting 71 and 72 across the two days. Abigail Llewellyn from Virgin Valley followed with a score of 70/78, and Allison Montimeyen from Truckee recorded 81/82, followed by Katie Cassinelli of Lowry (79/84), Alina Gillespie from Truckee, and Makenzie Martoran of Boulder City (82/89).
Zuniga’s 7th-place finish at State caps off an impressive high school career, having qualified for the state tournament all four years. Though the tournament didn’t end with a medal, her consistent performance over the years speaks to her talent and dedication. As she moves on from PVHS, Zuniga leaves behind a lasting legacy on the golf program, inspiring future players with her passion for the game. “I’ve really enjoyed coaching her the last four years,” Hopkins said.
