Suzie Wulfenstein, owner of Honey&Sage, has always had a passion for beauty and self care. Her journey began with Wulf Ink, a venture offering a range of permanent makeup services such as brows, lip blushing, eyeliner, lash liner, teeth whitening, fine line tattoos, and permanent jewelry. “I wanted to create a space that felt unique, something classy and inviting that was a bit different from other salons in town,” she shares.

Suzie Wulfenstein, owner of Wulf Ink and Honey&Sage

Honey and Sage opened its doors in November 2023, quickly becoming a one-stop shop for beauty needs in the community. The beauty spa offers an impressive array of services, including hair styling, nail art, lash extensions, permanent jewelry, facials, spray tans, and ear piercing. Each specialist at Honey and Sage brings unique skills, contributing to the spa’s diverse offerings. “We’ve got three hairstylists, each specializing in different areas, a nail artist who uses luminary nail systems, aestheticians for lash extensions and facials, and four permanent makeup artists,” Suzie explains. The spa also features a micro boutique, adding a unique touch to its comprehensive beauty services.

    Inside Honey&Sage

Suzie emphasizes the importance of staying updated with the latest trends and innovations in the beauty industry. Social media plays a crucial role in this, as she follows various salons worldwide to keep an eye on emerging trends. “Continued education is vital,” she notes, “and we all strive to stay ahead by constantly learning and training.”

The spa’s approach to beauty and self care focuses on making clients feel beautiful and confident. Suzie recounts touching stories of client transformations, such as a cancer survivor who regained her confidence with new eyebrows and an 87-year-old woman who wanted to look her best. “It’s about giving people something to look forward to when they come in,” she says.

Ensuring personalized and high-quality service is a top priority at Honey&Sage. Suzie instills the importance of making clients feel comfortable and valued, whether they are getting their hair done or a spray tan. Follow-ups are a key part of the client experience, ensuring satisfaction and addressing any concerns. “People like to be followed up with,” she explains, “it shows we care about their experience.”

Running a beauty spa comes with its challenges. Suzie recalls a significant hurdle when she realized she needed a separate cosmetology license to operate. “It was a learning experience,” she admits, but it taught her the importance of being thoroughly prepared and properly licensed.

For those considering opening their own beauty spa, Suzie advises looking at what others are doing and finding a way to be different. “If you’re different, you’ll stand out,” she says. She believes that trends like permanent makeup are here to stay, as they provide lasting benefits and satisfaction to clients.

Honey&Sage is also involved in community initiatives, frequently donating to local charities and events. Suzie values her partnership with Sherry from Enhanced Aesthetics and Wellness, which allows them to cover a wide range of beauty needs in the community.

Ultimately, Suzie hopes that Honey&Sage has a positive impact on the community and their clients’ lives. “I hope people walk out feeling more beautiful than when they came in,” she says. She believes that looking good on the outside helps people feel better on the inside, making them better humans overall. “When we’re our best selves, it’s a beautiful thing,” she concludes.
