The Pahrump Valley High School boys’ golf team opened its league schedule on Thursday, March 5, competing on their home course at Mountain Falls Golf Club in Pahrump. Unlike the warm, sunny conditions just a week earlier when the Trojans hosted the 37th annual Pahrump Valley Invitational in temperatures in the 80s, the first league match brought much colder weather and steady winds, creating a more challenging day on the course.

Despite the blustery conditions, the Trojans turned in a strong performance against a competitive field of league opponents. Teams participating in the match included Boulder City, Civica, Coral Academy, Moapa Valley, The Meadows, Virgin Valley and Pahrump Valley.

When the final scores were tallied, Virgin Valley claimed the top team spot, while the Trojans secured second place. Boulder City finished third, followed by Moapa Valley in fourth. The Meadows, Coral Academy and Civica each competed with incomplete teams and were unable to post full team scores.

Pahrump Valley’s strong team finish was fueled by several consistent individual performances. Aaron Rily led the Trojans with a fifth-place finish overall. Cayden Cowley followed closely behind in seventh place, while Brody Myers cracked the top ten with a 10th-place finish.

Just outside the top ten, Samson Wagner placed 11th, while Travis Floyd tied for 12th overall. Keir Sheppard rounded out the Trojans’ scoring lineup with an 18th-place finish.

Several additional Trojans also took part in the match, gaining valuable experience on the course even though their scores did not count toward the team total. Those golfers included Caden Briscoe, TC Hone, Kamden Moore, Tanner Gott, Keldan Frederiksen and Chase Hansen.

Despite the difficult weather conditions, the Trojans demonstrated depth and resilience in their first league outing of the season. With a second-place team finish to begin league play and multiple golfers finishing near the top of the leaderboard, Pahrump Valley showed it will be a strong contender as the season continues.
