The Rosemary Clarke Middle School girls volleyball B team held off a second-set rally to sweep Faith Lutheran 25-14, 25-21 at RCMS on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Remi Saldana opened the match with a tip for the Knights’ first point, and Oliviah Gray followed with an ace as RCMS jumped ahead 4-0. Faith Lutheran recovered and briefly took an 8-7 lead, but Mia Schuerger put a ball over that Faith Lutheran could not return, then served two aces to help the Knights regain control.
RCMS led 15-12 when Gray began another productive stretch at the service line, helping push the score to 20-12. Evalyna Sage and Schuerger also served aces during the set, and Saldana finished it with two in a row to give the Knights a 25-14 win.
Karah Sheppard served an ace to start the second set. Schuerger added two more as RCMS built an early lead, while Saldana placed a ball into open space for a point. Gray later made a dig that helped the Knights win a rally and move ahead 11-6.
Faith Lutheran came back to take a 19-15 lead, but RCMS answered. Schuerger dug a serve to keep a rally alive, and Saldana sent the ball back over for a point. Schuerger then helped pull the Knights even at 19-19 with another turn at the service line.
With RCMS trailing 21-20, Sage put the ball over to tie the set. She then served as Faith Lutheran sent the next return out, giving the Knights a 22-21 lead. Sage followed with three consecutive aces to complete the comeback and seal the sweep.
