The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans’ junior varsity boys’ basketball team delivered a dominant performance against the Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon Pirates on Tuesday, February 4, securing an impressive 55-21 victory on the road.

The Trojans came out strong from the opening tip-off, setting the tone early with sharp execution on both ends of the court. Lucas Gavenda got things rolling with an early basket and a free throw, pushing Pahrump ahead 6-0. He continued his scoring streak, and by the time the first quarter buzzer sounded, the Trojans had built a commanding 21-9 lead. Jack Toth and Jamiah Mendenhall added key contributions, while Gavenda’s buzzer-beater capped off an electric opening period.

The momentum carried into the second quarter, with TC Hone setting up Mendenhall for a smooth finish inside. Pahrump’s defense remained strong, limiting Pinecrest’s opportunities and capitalizing on rebounds. After a key putback from Gavenda off a missed free throw and another late surge, the Trojans entered halftime leading 31-12.

The second half saw no slowdown from Pahrump. Gavenda, Hone, and Mendenhall continued to attack the basket, extending the lead. Trae Plein added to the mix, scoring from the right side, while Levi Denton got in on the action with a strong drive to close out the third quarter with the Trojans firmly in control at 49-17.

Despite an unusual technical foul early in the fourth quarter, Pahrump maintained its composure. Hone, Mendenhall, and Plein chipped in final baskets, sealing the dominant 55-21 victory. The Trojans played with energy, teamwork, and efficiency throughout the game, making a strong statement on the road.
