The PVHS JV Boys’ soccer team faced off against Doral Academy Red Rock on Thursday, September 12, in a highly anticipated matchup. Though the Trojans ultimately fell 3-0 to the Dragons, the game was a true testament to their heart and determination, proving they can compete with the best teams in the league.
Head Coach Devin Petersen praised his team’s effort, particularly in the first half. “We expected to be outmatched but quickly realized we could fit in with one of the top teams in the league,” said Petersen. “The boys showed a lot of leadership, especially from our captains, picking up the rest of the team and staying strong throughout the game.”
Favyan Sida was named Player of the Game for his standout performance, bringing relentless energy to the field. The Trojans took 11 shots on goal, creating several strong scoring opportunities. On the defensive side, they faced 10 shots, with goalkeeper Jessie Barajas-Roman making seven key saves while conceding only three goals. Despite the final score, Coach Petersen was encouraged by the team’s effort. “We created plenty of chances,” he said. “It’s important to keep pushing, even when the results don’t go your way.”
The match shifted momentum with a goal, followed by a penalty kick from a handball, and then another quick goal within 10 minutes in the second half. But even in the face of adversity, the Trojans closed out strong, learning valuable lessons for the future. “It was a clean game on our part, and it showed us what we need to work on, particularly our body work,” said Petersen. “We tried new formations today, and even though the result didn’t go our way, we know we have the talent to be the best in the league.”
The Trojans faced the same team last year and lost 8-1, making this year’s result a clear sign of growth and development. “This game showed who we are and what we’re capable of,” said Petersen. “It’s a tough loss, but we put our hearts on the field and fought hard. We have a lot to look forward to the next time we face this team.”
As the season progresses, the JV Trojans continue to build on their strengths and learn from each game, with eyes set on future victories.
