The PVHS Girls’ soccer team secured a hard-fought victory against Chaparral in their home game on Tuesday night, edging out their opponents with a 2-1 win. The match was closer than expected, highlighting some of the challenges the Trojans have faced early in the season.
The goals for PVHS were scored by Shaelee Boucher and Natalia Vallin, whose efforts on the field proved crucial in clinching the win. Despite being undermanned, the team showcased determination and grit, managing to keep Chaparral at bay and converting key opportunities.
Head Coach Amy Carlson noted that the team has yet to play a game with their full roster this season, which has added to the difficulty of finding their rhythm on the field. “Conditioning seems to be one of our key struggles, coupled with overall inexperience and confidence,” said Carlson. “The girls need to believe in themselves and each other as much as the coaches do. They have the ability to play far better than the games have proved, but they beat themselves each match with doubt.”
Despite these obstacles, the Trojans showed resilience and determination against Chaparral. The narrow victory is a testament to the team’s potential, even as they continue to work through early-season challenges. One of the key issues, according to Coach Carlson, is the lack of sufficient field space for practice, which has impacted their ability to work on critical skills. “Lack of field space has shown to be a challenge at practices, so we will be getting creative and focusing on conditioning and communication in the upcoming weeks,” Carlson explained.
As the season progresses, Coach Carlson remains optimistic about the team’s growth and development. “It is still early in the season, and we have to celebrate the wins—both the game wins and the good things on the field—and work harder to overcome our challenges,” she said. With a focus on conditioning and building confidence, the PVHS Girls’ soccer team looks forward to improving with each match, embracing both their successes and learning opportunities along the way.
