The Pahrump Valley High School Boys’ JV Wrestling team delivered an impressive performance at their home dual meet on Thursday, December 5, 2024, securing victories against Eldorado and Clark. The Trojans showcased their depth and determination, with every athlete contributing to the team’s success.
In their first match against Eldorado, the team earned a commanding 66-6 win. Samuel Sylva (113 lbs.), Dominic Chiancone (120 lbs.), Jacob McLaughlin (132 lbs.), Bryce Whitney (138 lbs.), Horus Cantwell (144 lbs.), Ryan Hamlin (150 lbs.), Jacob Seeback (157 lbs.), Kelson Cross-Smith (175 lbs.), Paul Walker (190 lbs.), and Marlon Garcia (heavyweight) all won by forfeit. Bryce Howard (215 lbs.) added to the team’s dominance with a victory by pin, while Samson Wagner (126 lbs.) fought hard in a narrow 12-11 loss by points. The Trojans’ readiness and preparation were evident in their decisive win.
The team faced a tougher challenge against Clark but prevailed with a 48-30 victory. Sylva, Chiancone, Wagner, and McLaughlin once again won by forfeit, while Whitney (138 lbs.), Cross-Smith (175 lbs.), Walker (190 lbs.), and Garcia (heavyweight) secured wins by pin. Despite hard-fought matches, Cantwell (144 lbs.), Cade Wulfenstein (150 lbs.), Hamlin (157 lbs.), and Howard (215 lbs.) were defeated by pin. The team’s collective effort and resilience carried them through the dual, demonstrating their depth and determination to succeed.
Head JV Coach Mike Colucci praised the team’s effort and expressed optimism for their potential. “Our JV team competed hard against Eldorado and Clark. Both teams had some solid wrestlers, and our kids took it to them,” Colucci said. “I think our JV team has potential to be really good this year if we all continue to do the work in the wrestling room, in the weight room, and most importantly in the classroom.” Colucci emphasized the importance of consistency in practice, fitness, and academics, noting the progress the team has made. “Most of our JV kids are buying in, and they are starting to reap the benefits of doing everything right. We are excited about the future of this program.”
The PVHS JV Wrestling team’s strong start to the season highlights their promise and determination. With hard work and focus, the Trojans are poised for continued success on and off the mat.
