In a thrilling second round of the Class 3A Southern League Boys Tennis Playoffs, the Pahrump Valley High School boys’ tennis team made school history by advancing to the Regional finals and qualifying for state for the first time ever. Facing a tough opponent in Adelson High School, the match was a nail-biter from start to finish, ultimately coming down to a tiebreaker where the Trojans clinched the win with a differential of plus 2.
Head Coach Michael DelaRosa praised his team for their grit and determination. “They played their hearts and guts out,” he said, reflecting on the intensity of the match.
In singles play, James Dela Rosa, Sonny Skinner, and Milan Vasquez each finished with a 1-2 record, battling hard against some of the state’s top players, including the state champion and runner-up.
The doubles teams, however, stepped up in a big way. Lucas Johnson and Jace Eichner went undefeated with a 3-0 record, Chris Jacks and Legend Reigns finished 2-1, and Juan Rodriguez and Bryce Dykstra secured one win with a 1-2 record.
With the teams tied 9-9, the match proceeded to a tiebreaker, where each player faced the same opponents again. The score was tied once more, but PVHS emerged victorious with a 27-25 score, winning by a differential of plus 2 to advance to the next round.
This historic victory marks a major milestone for the PVHS boys’ tennis program as they prepare for their first-ever appearance in the state tournament.
