The PVHS Boys’ Soccer team faced two intense matchups in late September, with a hard-fought battle against Mater East on September 26, 2024, and a triumphant victory at home over Adelson on September 30, 2024.
In the game against Mater East, the Trojans were up against one of the league’s toughest teams, resulting in a 5-0 loss. Despite the scoreline, Head Coach Andrew Norton remained positive, “We played really well against one of the best teams in the league,” said Norton. “Our communication was on point. We had several players out with injuries, but the kids who stepped up really played above their level. We just couldn’t get the ball to the goal; their defense was so solid.”
The game on September 30 against Adelson, however, was a different story. PVHS came out strong and secured a commanding 7-2 victory. Key players like Hector Hernandez (2 goals), who was named Player of the Game, and Caleb Sierra-Hudgens (1), Elijah Solis (1), Callum Atwell (1), Sam Mendoza (1), and Roberto Gonzalez (1) all found the back of the net, contributing to the dominant performance.
“As soon as we were up by a fair amount, our second-string players got extra time on the field,” said Norton. “We used it as a chance to work on fundamentals once the win was secure. It was great to see the kids who don’t normally get as much playing time get in and really play the sport.”
With the leadership of Coach Norton and standout performances across the roster, the Trojans are showing their determination and growth as they continue their season.
