Hannah Brown McElheny’s journey began in the close-knit community of Pahrump, where she graduated from Pahrump Valley High School in 2020. During her high school years, she was known for her dedication to school spirit, her commitment to sports, and her genuine love for the people around her. Fondly recalling those times, Hannah cherishes memories of decorating for school dances and attending late-night games. It was here at PVHS that she developed the foundation for resilience, teamwork, and discipline—qualities that would later serve her well in her military career.

Some of her best high school memories were rooted in athletics. Although she no longer stays in touch with all of her former teammates, she holds onto the camaraderie and the life lessons gained through sports. “The sports I played and the people I played with had a huge impact on my life,” she shared. Coaches like Craig Rieger and Mike Colucci helped instill in her a love for fitness and the discipline to pursue excellence. Training in the weight room under their guidance was more than just physical preparation—it was character-building, and it prepared her for the demanding life that lay ahead. She credits the physical and mental toughness she developed in high school sports as a crucial asset in her current role as an electrician in the Navy.

Even though her journey eventually took her far from home, Hannah maintains strong ties to PVHS. Her niece, Tara DeGoede, recently started her freshman year there, and Hannah enjoys hearing Tara’s stories about her new teachers, comparing notes on the ones she remembers from her time at the school. The connection to her alma mater keeps her grounded, a reminder of the roots and relationships that have shaped her into the person she is today.

Hannah’s connection to her family has been a driving force throughout her life. She describes her husband as her “rock,” the unwavering source of support who has been with her through every high and low. His encouragement and belief in her abilities have helped her stay resilient through the challenges of military life. “He has the most genuine heart and is the most amazing father,” she said, reflecting on his kindness and strength. Together, they are raising a joyful one-year-old son, Easton, who already has a budding love for the outdoors. “He’s the sweetest little one-year-old with the funniest personality,” she shared, adding that Easton will happily play with anyone who gives him attention. Balancing the demands of her career with her responsibilities as a mother and wife is not always easy, but for Hannah, family always comes first. “Even on the days it’s hard, I have to leave work at the front door and come home and give my family every percent of me that I can,” she said.

After graduating from PVHS, Hannah faced a tough decision about her future. The onset of the pandemic had shifted her plans, making college financially unfeasible. Looking for a fresh start and a way to step out of her comfort zone, she chose to join the Navy. It was a bold move that would bring her structure, purpose, and a path forward. “Joining the Navy was the greatest decision I ever made. It got me out of a situation of feeling stuck and helped me achieve some of my greatest achievements,” she said, grateful for the experiences and opportunities her military career has provided.

Her time in the Navy has been transformative, filled with both challenges and accomplishments. After training, Hannah’s first assignment was in Spain, a world away from the Nevada desert. Living abroad presented cultural and language barriers and a nine-hour time difference from her family, which proved to be one of her biggest hurdles. “Getting stationed in Spain where the time difference was nine hours from my family was extremely difficult for me to adjust to,” she admitted, noting that her close bond with her family made the isolation tough. Yet, the experience taught her resilience, self-sufficiency, and the importance of adapting to new environments.

While stationed in Spain, Hannah had the opportunity to travel to over ten countries before the age of 22. She has visited France, Italy, Norway, Greece, and England, each destination broadening her perspective and enriching her life. “Being able to travel the world and see over ten different countries was one of my biggest achievements,” she said, noting how these experiences allowed her to see the world in a way she never imagined back in high school. Her travels provided a window into other cultures, fostering a deeper appreciation for global diversity and a more profound understanding of her own values.

Despite the physical distance, Hannah’s family remains her top priority. Her husband has been by her side, supporting her dreams and helping her push through challenges, whether in Spain or back in Virginia Beach. They share a strong bond with their son, Easton, who brings a sense of balance and joy to their lives. Family time, outdoor adventures, and spending quality moments together form the core of Hannah’s happiness outside of work.

Recently, Hannah achieved a significant personal milestone by earning her real estate license, a career path she hopes to explore alongside her role in the Navy. For her, real estate is more than just an additional career—it’s a way to secure a brighter future for her family and expand her professional horizons. “I just got my real estate license, so I am hoping to pursue that,” she said, expressing her excitement to take on this new venture. Juggling two careers, a family, and personal goals requires careful planning, but Hannah has approached each challenge with the same determination and resilience that guided her through high school and her early days in the Navy.

Through her journey, Hannah has come to embrace the importance of patience and persistence. “Don’t rush your career, and don’t let anyone—not even your closest friends and family—talk you out of your dreams,” she advised. Her message to others is clear: pursue what feels right, even if it’s unconventional. Her own experience in the Navy has brought her growth, pride, and countless memories, and she encourages others to consider the rewards of taking risks. “Please don’t be afraid. Joining the Navy was the greatest decision I ever made,” she said, emphasizing how the military opened doors to new cultures, experiences, and personal achievements.

Looking ahead, Hannah plans to continue her Navy service while growing her real estate career. She is excited about the new opportunities both paths hold, and she remains committed to creating a stable future for her family. Whether in uniform or as a real estate agent, Hannah’s focus on resilience, family, and self-improvement defines her journey.

From her beginnings in Pahrump to her life of service and adventure, Hannah Brown McElheny exemplifies what it means to be courageous, adaptable, and driven. Her story serves as a reminder of the impact of strong family ties, the power of new experiences, and the rewards of stepping beyond one’s comfort zone. As she continues to balance her professional and personal life, Hannah remains a role model for those aspiring to turn their dreams into reality, embracing each challenge as an opportunity for growth.
