Pahrump Valley High School’s wrestling team continues to shine this season, delivering strong performances in dual meets on January 21 and January 23. Both varsity and junior varsity teams showcased their skills, earning decisive victories and demonstrating their depth and determination on the mat.

January 23: Dual Success Against Valley and Del Sol
Two days later, the Trojans faced Valley and Del Sol in a series of duals, with both varsity and junior varsity teams competing. Pahrump’s varsity team triumphed in both matchups, defeating Valley 48-28 and Del Sol 60-24.
Against Valley, key victories included pins from Ethan Rouse (106), Dominic Chiancone (120), and Iyan Bosket (175). Joey Scheer (113) and Bishop Carter (132) earned technical wins, while Ryan Hamlin (150) and Paul Walker (165) secured critical points victories. The meet came down to the final two matches, with Pahrump holding a narrow 36-28 lead. Julio Ackerman (Heavyweight) sealed the win with a clutch pin, followed by another pin from Rouse (106), giving the Trojans a comfortable margin.
In the dual against Del Sol, the Trojans demonstrated their dominance once again. Chiancone (120), Joaquin Flores (126), Carter (132), Crisler (144), Hamlin (150), and both Iyan and Oscar Bosket (175 and 190) earned victories by pin. Forfeits for Rouse (106), Scheer (113), and De Santiago (138) added to the team’s commanding performance.
The junior varsity team also excelled, winning both of their duals with standout efforts from their wrestlers. Against Valley, the JV team secured a 60-17 victory, highlighted by pins from Corbin Larsen (106), Jacob McLaughlin (132), and Blake Donnelly (Heavyweight). Against Del Sol, the team continued their success with a 54-22 win, featuring pins from Bryce Whitney (138), Horus Cantwell (144), Jacob Stepp (165), and Jairo Bravo (175).
Coach Frank Lopez was pleased with his team and had high praise for them. “Another successful night for the program with two big league dual wins. Valley really pushed us and stayed in it until the end, but Julio, our heavyweight, came through with a huge pin to seal the win. We saw strong performances from our younger wrestlers, and our upperclassmen stepped up when it mattered most. Del Sol had some tough competitors, and it was great to see one of their assistants, Jesus Olivias, on their staff. In 2013, a group of us—Zach Weldon, Ande and Kyle Floyd, and myself—all Pahrump Valley Wrestling alumni, coached at Del Sol, and Jesus was our heavyweight. It’s always special to see former wrestlers giving back to the sport.”
The Trojans’ performances on January 21 and 23 showcased their depth, resilience, and teamwork, setting the stage for an exciting remainder of the season. Both varsity and JV teams continue to demonstrate their commitment to excellence and competitive spirit on the mat.
