The Pahrump Valley High School wrestling team displayed determination and resilience at the Sierra Nevada Classic, held in Reno on December 27-28. Competing against some of the toughest athletes in the region, both the varsity and girls’ teams represented their school with pride, gaining valuable experience in the process.
A standout performance came from Oscar Bosket, who excelled in the 190-pound weight class. With an impressive 5-2 record, Bosket secured a 4th place finish, demonstrating his skill, grit, and focus in a highly competitive bracket. Several other wrestlers also had notable showings. Randy Murray (190), Ben De Santiago (138), Paul Walker (175), Bishop Carter (132), and Joseph Scheer (113) all finished with 2-2 records, holding their own against challenging opponents. Their determination on the mat highlighted the team’s growing potential.
The girls’ team also displayed perseverance and grit in their matches. Payton Weaver (120) and Tiler Ledford (170) each secured a win, finishing 1-2, while Amelia Graziano (155) gained valuable experience competing at this high level of competition. Their efforts underscored the importance of these tournaments in building strength and confidence.
For many of the wrestlers, this tournament was an opportunity to face elite competition and refine their skills. Wrestlers like Ethan Rouse (106), Jacob McLaughlin (138), Ryan Hamlin (150), Kelsen Cross-Smith (165), and others fought hard in their matches, learning valuable lessons that will serve them well in future competitions.
The Sierra Nevada Classic is known for its challenging field of competitors, and Pahrump Valley’s wrestlers rose to the occasion, showcasing their commitment and hard work. As the season progresses, the team will use this experience to continue improving and striving for success. The Pahrump community can take pride in their wrestlers and look forward to seeing their growth in the matches to come.
