In a game that showcased both sportsmanship and relentless defensive intensity, the Pahrump Valley High School girls’ basketball team delivered a strong performance on the road Wednesday night, defeating The Meadows Mustangs 46–12. From honoring a senior opponent at tipoff to unleashing a suffocating full-court press that dictated the pace for four quarters, the Lady Trojans balanced class and competitiveness in a statement late-season win.
Before the opening whistle, both teams agreed to allow an injured Meadows senior to score the first basket on her Senior Night, setting a respectful and memorable tone for the contest. Pahrump quickly responded as Autumn Colon answered with a bucket to even the score at 2–2 before The Meadows called a timeout to substitute the honored player out of the game.
From there, the Lady Trojans turned to their trademark defensive pressure. Addi Nelsen set the tone by face-guarding near midcourt while Riley Saldaña immediately made her presence felt defensively, drawing a blocking foul. The early minutes were marked by scrappy play, including a jump ball forced by Ella Odegard and multiple inbound disruptions that created early frustration for the Mustangs.

The Meadows briefly built an 8–2 lead after connecting from beyond the arc at the 6:30 mark of the first quarter, but Pahrump quickly regrouped. Kaitlyn Brown sparked the comeback with a rebound and putback to cut the deficit to 8–4. Moments later, Brown was fouled on the right block, converting one of two free throws to bring the Lady Trojans within three.
The offensive rhythm continued to build as Jules Ondrisko pump-faked a three-pointer before delivering a perfectly timed bounce pass to Saldaña on the left block for a score, narrowing the gap to 8–7. Brown then delivered a highlight assist with a backdoor pass to Aurora Bowers, giving Pahrump its first lead at 9–8.
The defensive press began to completely shift momentum. Saldaña recorded a steal that led to an Ondrisko free throw, followed by another turnover forced by the press. Saldaña attacked the lane for a transition basket, and Odegard followed with a rebound score after a Brown shot. Brown added another late bucket before Ondrisko scored underneath in the final seconds of the quarter, capping a dominant 16-point run and giving Pahrump an 18–8 lead after one.

The Lady Trojans continued to control the tempo in the second quarter. Saldaña and Nelsen both drew fouls while maintaining defensive pressure. Sydney Crotty extended the lead with a jumper near the right elbow at the 4:13 mark, pushing the score to 20–8. Saldaña followed with another strong finish in the paint to make it 22–8.
The hustle plays continued to define Pahrump’s performance. Odegard dove to the floor to secure possession, leading to a timeout by Head Coach Bob Hopkins. Out of the break, Odegard connected with Olivia Veloz on an inbound play, where Veloz was fouled on a shot from the left block and converted one free throw. Saldaña added another free throw after grabbing an offensive rebound, and Veloz scored again in the paint with 35 seconds remaining to extend the lead to 26–8 at halftime. The Lady Trojans’ defense remained suffocating, forcing another five-second inbound violation and limiting Meadows to minimal offensive opportunities.
Pahrump carried its momentum into the second half. Saldaña opened the third quarter with a basket at the 7:40 mark, while Ondrisko created offense by forcing a steal and resetting the attack. Brown then connected on a three-pointer from the left corner to stretch the lead to 31–8.
Saldaña continued her strong night offensively, scoring again to make it 36–8 before Ava Bowers added another basket to extend the advantage to 38–8. Free throws from Saldaña and Crotty pushed the score to 41–8, while Veloz recorded a steal and converted a fast-break layup. She later added another paint finish in the closing seconds of the quarter as Pahrump built a commanding 45–8 lead entering the final period.

The Mustangs managed to open the fourth quarter with a free throw, followed by a rebound score and foul to make it 11–45. Cindal Monahan responded by earning a trip to the line and knocking down one free throw to extend Pahrump’s total to 46 points.
With the outcome well in hand, the Lady Trojans’ depth took center stage. Ava Bowers and Aurora Bowers shared time on the floor together, while Jaycie Hayes, Ariana Apolinar, Adrian Rogers, and Raegan Saldaña all saw late-game minutes. Despite an offensive foul called against Ava Bowers in the final minute, the Lady Trojans maintained control and closed out the 46–12 victory.
The win highlights Pahrump Valley’s defensive identity, with the team forcing multiple five-second violations, turnovers, and rushed possessions through relentless pressing and high-energy play. Balanced scoring, strong rebounding, and unselfish ball movement helped the Lady Trojans steadily pull away throughout the contest.
Pahrump Valley now turns its focus to the final game of the regular season, scheduled for Friday, February 6, at home against the Boulder City Eagles. The evening will also serve as Senior Night, with seniors recognized prior to the 5 p.m. tipoff. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the Lady Trojans will prepare for the Regional Quarterfinals set for Wednesday, February 11, with location details to be determined after Friday’s matchup.
With postseason play approaching, Wednesday’s road victory serves as another strong example of the Lady Trojans’ teamwork, defensive discipline, and growing confidence as they head toward the next phase of their season.
