The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ golf team opened their season with their first tournament of the year on Thursday, August 28, at Mountain Falls Golf Club in Pahrump. The event brought together six schools, including the Lady Trojans, with Boulder City, The Meadows, and Virgin Valley rounding out the top three teams. To be considered for team scoring, each school must field at least four players.
Senior Tiffany Sartin and freshman Raegan Saldaña represented PVHS in the tournament, both still early in their competitive golf journeys. This marked the first-ever high school tournament for Saldaña and only the second for Sartin, making their participation a special milestone for the program. Tournament rules required players to meet a cutoff score of 55 strokes on the front nine to continue to the back nine holes. Both Lady Trojans cleared that mark and completed the full 18.

Saldaña finished 17th overall with a score of 112 in an impressive debut, while Sartin placed 25th with a score of 138. Their efforts contributed to a strong showing of determination and growth for the PVHS squad. At the top of the leaderboard, Davie Slack of Virgin Valley claimed first place individually, followed by Boulder City’s Morgan Terrill and Riley Elder.
Head Coach Sierra McKillips praised her golfers for their performance and attitude throughout the day. “Last week’s tournament was a great way to kick off the women’s 3A league season,” McKillips said. “We were excited to have six teams in attendance. Our PVHS girls made us very proud by setting goals and reaching them in this tournament. I have told the team it is not about winning but doing your best and pushing through the challenge.”

For Sartin and Saldaña, the day was as much about experience as competition, and both will look to build on their progress as the season moves forward. The Lady Trojans now set their sights on upcoming league play, carrying the confidence gained from a successful start at home.
