The holiday spirit came to life in Pahrump as Crafting for a Cause hosted its Polar Express Experience Craft Fair on Friday and Saturday, November 21–22, filling the Bob Ruud Community Center with laughter, music, and the spirit of giving.
Organized by Lisa McNicholas and Jan Maher, the two-day event blended festive fun with community support, drawing large crowds of shoppers eager to find unique, handcrafted gifts while helping local causes. Forty vendors showcased handmade crafts, jewelry, home décor, and holiday treats, many noting how happy they were with the turnout and the friendly, cheerful atmosphere throughout the weekend.

The event’s highlight was the Polar Express Experience, which brought Christmas magic to approximately 73 children. During one of five themed sessions, each child received a personalized golden train ticket, a cup of hot cocoa, a cupcake, and a special gift bag while Oliver Jones from Pahrump Theatre Company performed short skits inspired by The Polar Express. Originally planned as a paid activity, the children’s experience was made completely free thanks to generous sponsorship from Top Dog Realty, ensuring every child had the opportunity to participate. Reflecting on the weekend, organizer Jan Maher shared that their goal as Crafters for a Cause is always “to highlight a local non-profit by giving them an opportunity to shine,” adding that Oliver Jones from Pahrump Theatre Company “did just that.” She said the two-day show “hit the mark” and noted she “can’t wait until next year to start planning The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Adding to the festive feel, Ruh Roh DJ kept the holiday tunes playing. Vendors also gave back by donating non-perishable food items to local food banks, while a portion from each booth fee benefited the Pahrump Theatre Company, a total of more than $1000, continuing the event’s tradition of community support.
On Friday morning, local senior center members and EMS personnel were treated to complimentary coffee and doughnuts as a thank-you for their ongoing service to the community—a gesture that underscored the event’s theme of appreciation and giving.
From the smiling faces to the generous hearts, the Polar Express Experience Craft Fair was a shining success, reminding everyone in attendance that the holiday season is about more than shopping—it’s about connection, kindness, and community.
