The Pahrump Town Board Committee has announced it is officially on track to bring the question of reestablishing the Pahrump Town Board before voters, though organizers emphasize that the process is still in its early stages and will require significant community involvement.
According to the committee, five members will take an important step forward on Wednesday, August 20, at 11:00 a.m. when they appear at the Nye County Clerk’s Office to sign documents that will initiate the petition process. The petitions will ultimately determine whether the measure makes it onto the ballot.
Residents will also have an opportunity to learn more during a community Town Hall meeting scheduled for Friday, August 22, at the NyE Communities Coalition, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Committee members will be present to answer questions, explain the petition process, and clear up common misconceptions.
Petitions will be made available at the Town Hall meeting, at the Fall Festival in late September, and at additional signing locations around Pahrump. The committee clarified that businesses hosting petition forms are not endorsing the effort itself but are simply providing a location for residents to exercise their right to sign.
The committee also addressed a frequent point of confusion, stressing that a town board has no authority to increase taxes. “Anyone who says otherwise is either misinformed or purposely misleading,” the update stated.
The Fall Festival, scheduled for September 25–28, will feature a booth hosted by the Pahrump Town Board Committee where residents can sign petitions, ask questions, and make donations. Organizers note that while donations are welcome, contributions are not tax-deductible, as the committee is not classified as a nonprofit by the IRS.
In the meantime, the committee continues to seek new members and is encouraging anyone interested in getting involved to contact Dr. Waters at 702-379-3449. Support from the community, organizers say, will be vital at every step as they work toward their goal of restoring the Pahrump Town Board.

I really hope citizens do not sign the petition to reestablish a town board. It was definitely dissolved for a reason. We do not need an extra layer of government! It will again prove to be costly and give power to those who don’t deserve it. I truly believe we can help make the current board of county commissioners better.
