The Pahrump Valley Rotary Club will once again bring the community together to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, with a moving remembrance ceremony scheduled for Thursday, September 11, 2025. The program will take place at the Calvada Eye and will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to be “in place” by 8:15 a.m.
The solemn morning will open with the presentation of colors by the Nye County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard, followed by an invocation from Pastor Robert Roth of the Pahrump Seventh-day Adventist Church. The Pledge of Allegiance will then be recited, and the National Anthem will be performed by Greg Curtin, accompanied by signing from Marla Quercia.
At key moments throughout the ceremony, bells will toll to mark the tragic events of that fateful morning. At 8:46 a.m., the bell will ring in memory of American Airlines Flight 11, which crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center. At 9:03 a.m., the second bell will honor the victims of United Airlines Flight 175, which struck the South Tower. At 9:37 a.m., another bell will sound for American Airlines Flight 77, which crashed into the Pentagon, claiming the lives of passengers, crew, and those inside the building. Finally, at 10:03 a.m., the program will pause to reflect on the heroism of United Airlines Flight 93, whose passengers fought back before the plane went down in a field in Pennsylvania.
The program will feature remarks from a distinguished group of local leaders and community representatives. Charles Lavoie, a Rotary member, will serve as Master of Ceremonies, with Barbara Thompson, the 2025–26 President of the Pahrump Valley Rotary Club, and Roy Mankins, past Rotary President, offering reflections. Other speakers include Pahrump Valley Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Services Scott Lewis, Nye County Sheriff Joe McGill, State Assemblyman Greg Hafen II, Nye County Commissioner Ian Bayne, former Nye County Commissioner Frank Carbone, KVPM-TV’s Mikey Roohan, and longtime Pahrump resident Reva Braun.
The ceremony will conclude with a closing prayer led by Pastor Roth, bringing the morning to a reverent close.
The Pahrump Valley Rotary Club invites the entire community to attend this special tribute at the Calvada Eye. The annual event serves as a reminder of the resilience of the nation, the sacrifices made on that day, and the unity that continues to bind Americans together.
