Desert View Hospital is taking another step toward strengthening patient care by launching a new post-discharge phone support system powered by generative artificial intelligence. The hospital announced this week that, beginning in the coming weeks, some patients will receive follow-up calls from “Daisy,” a specially designed AI phone assistant created by Hippocratic AI.
Hospital leaders emphasize that the goal is simple: to give patients timely, accurate support once they return home, without replacing the personal connection people have come to expect from the local healthcare team.
As a rural hospital serving a large senior population and a tight-knit community, Desert View Hospital understands that new technology can spark questions. The hospital hopes early communication will help patients feel comfortable with the change.
Daisy will reach out to recently discharged patients to review care instructions, ask about any new or worsening symptoms, and provide reassurance during the early days of recovery. If a patient expresses concern or needs help at any point, the system immediately transfers the call to a human nurse so care can continue seamlessly.
Hospital officials want the community to know these calls are part of legitimate patient follow-up and should not be confused with spam or telemarketing. Daisy will clearly identify itself as calling on behalf of Desert View Hospital, and short pauses between questions are normal as the system reviews information and allows patients time to respond. The AI will never request sensitive information—only a date of birth for verification purposes.
Importantly, Desert View Hospital stresses that the new system is not taking the place of nurses or caregivers. Instead, it serves as an extension of the care teams already in place, helping them reach more patients efficiently while ensuring anyone with a concern is routed to staff immediately.
“Growing up in a small town in Montana taught me the value of genuine connection, and that remains at the heart of how we care for patients at Desert View Hospital,” said CEO Susan Davila. “As we are introducing this new follow-up system, we want our community to know that it is simply an added layer of support. Our nurses and caregivers are still here, still engaged, and still dedicated to the personal touch our patients rely on.”
The hospital acknowledges that AI-based phone calls may feel unfamiliar, especially for older residents. Anyone who is unsure whether a call is legitimate—or who simply prefers speaking with hospital staff directly—can reach Desert View Hospital at 775-751-7500.
With the launch of Daisy, Desert View Hospital continues its mission of delivering personalized, small-town care while thoughtfully incorporating modern tools that support patients during and after their hospital stay.
