The Pahrump Valley Little League Senior Division playoff matchup between the Braves and Angels on Wednesday, May 6 featured early momentum swings, aggressive baserunning, and strong efforts on both sides before the Braves secured a mercy-rule victory.

The Angels threatened immediately in the top of the first when Deston reached after being hit by a pitch from Braves starter Stetson Brown. Deston quickly moved into scoring position, stealing second and advancing to third on a groundout by Derek Hutchinson. Brown settled in from there, recording back-to-back strikeouts to strand the runner and keep the game scoreless.

The Braves answered in a big way in the bottom half. Justin Forsythe sparked the inning with a single, and Nathan Elliott followed by reaching on a walk. Brown helped his own cause with an RBI single to bring in Forsythe for the game’s first run. The Braves continued to apply pressure with patient at-bats and aggressive baserunning, drawing multiple walks and capitalizing on a series of defensive miscues. Sawyer Tillery delivered a key two-run single, and Luis Gonzales later drove in another run on a groundout as the Braves surged to a 6-0 lead by the end of the inning.

The Angels responded in the second, showing resilience at the plate. After Ethan Crunk singled to get things started, Isaiah Samayoa and Noe each worked walks to load the bases. A sequence of plays, including an error, allowed three runs to score, cutting the deficit in half and bringing the Angels back within 6-3. The inning highlighted the Angels’ patience and ability to take advantage of opportunities.

The Braves quickly regained momentum in the bottom of the second. Forsythe again reached base, and Brown continued his standout performance with another RBI hit, driving in Elliott. The Braves added another run later in the inning, extending their lead to 8-3.

Both teams continued to battle in the third. The Angels put runners on base through a hit-by-pitch and walks, but Braves pitcher Everett Abelar, who took over on the mound, worked out of the jam with a pair of strikeouts to keep the Angels off the board.

In the bottom of the third, the Braves added to their lead behind disciplined at-bats and aggressive baserunning. Levi Calleros reached base and advanced into scoring position, and the Braves used a combination of walks, a groundout RBI from Gonzales, and heads-up baserunning—including a run scored on a dropped third strike—to push their advantage to 12-3.

The Angels continued to compete in the fourth, as Juan Ruiz delivered a single and Maddox Augustine reached base, but Abelar again closed the door with strikeouts to prevent further damage.

The Braves capped their scoring in the bottom of the fourth, drawing several walks and adding another run to extend the lead to 13-3, ultimately bringing the game to an early conclusion under the mercy rule.

Brown set the tone early on the mound for the Braves, while Abelar provided steady relief to maintain control of the game. For the Angels, Kody Osterhaut got the start, with Samayoa and Crunk also taking turns on the mound as they worked to slow the Braves’ offense.

Offensively, Brown stood out for the Braves with multiple hits and RBIs, while Tillery added a key hit during the pivotal first inning rally. Forsythe also played an important role at the top of the lineup, consistently reaching base and scoring runs.

For the Angels, Crunk led the way with a hit and run scored, while the team showed patience at the plate with several walks and continued to battle throughout the game.

Despite the final score, both teams showed effort and determination in a competitive playoff environment, with the Braves capitalizing on early opportunities and the Angels continuing to fight through each inning.
