When Mike Floyd talks about Pahrump Valley High School, it sounds less like a place he attended and more like a place that helped shape almost every part of his life afterward. A 1983 graduate of PVHS, Mike was a multi-sport athlete, a small-town kid in a tiny graduating class, and a young man who would eventually circle back as a business leader, school board member, and proud parent of three Trojans of his own. In the early 1980s, Pahrump Valley High School was small enough that everybody knew everybody. Mike’s class had fewer than 60 students. Friday nights revolved…

When Antonio Sandoval stepped into the role of Head Coach for the Pahrump Valley High School wrestling team this year, it marked not just a transition, but a continuation of a legacy deeply rooted in community, tradition, and hard-earned grit. For Sandoval, wrestling isn’t just a sport—it’s the defining thread woven through his childhood, his college experience, and now his professional life as he leads one of Pahrump’s most storied athletic programs. Sandoval first stepped onto a wrestling mat when he was in fifth grade, drawn into the sport through the long-respected Powerhouse youth program. Like many kids navigating new…

A steady rain fell over Pahrump on Tuesday morning, but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the Pahrump Valley Christian Homeschoolers as they arrived at Green Life Produce’s farm for a field trip months in the making. For group organizer and parent volunteer Jamie Giammarino, the weather was barely a consideration. “They messaged me this morning asking if we were still coming,” she said with a smile. “I told them we’re coming rain or shine. These kids dress for the occasion.” Rain boots, jackets, and eager faces filled the farm’s entrance as nineteen students, ranging from infants wrapped in carriers…

Despite losing four seniors from last year’s already young team, Hopkins sees encouraging signs from a group that is still young but already showing commitment. “We only have two seniors this year,” he said, “but our young kids, a lot of them come to…
