Southwest Medical Hospice, along with Optum Care Palliative Care, has received a prestigious five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest rating awarded to health care providers, recognizing exceptional performance in hospice and supportive care services.

The rating is based on results from the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Hospice Survey, which gathers feedback directly from family members or close friends of patients who have received hospice care. The survey evaluates the quality of care and support provided to both patients and their loved ones during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Southwest Medical Hospice earned top marks across several key areas that reflect the overall experience of families and patients, including communication with families, timely access to assistance, respectful treatment of patients, emotional and spiritual support, effective management of pain and symptoms, and training provided to family members caring for their loved ones. The survey also measures whether families would recommend the hospice to others, an important indicator of trust and satisfaction.

“We want our patients and families to feel hope and love,” said Brian Greenlee, Executive Director. “Our providers strive to offer care with dignity. We help our patients live life to the fullest every day.”

The five-star designation highlights the organization’s commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care that supports not only medical needs but also the emotional and spiritual well-being of individuals and their families.

CMS star ratings are designed to help patients and families make informed decisions when selecting health care providers, offering a standardized measure of quality based on real patient and caregiver experiences. Achieving the highest possible rating reflects the consistent dedication of Southwest Medical Hospice and Optum Care Palliative Care teams to delivering attentive, respectful, and meaningful care throughout the hospice journey.
