Lady Trojans Sweep Desert Pines with Strong JV Finale and Varsity Victory

The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ soccer program wrapped up another strong outing on Monday, October 6, as both the junior varsity and varsity teams delivered standout performances against Desert Pines in Las Vegas. The JV squad capped their season with a perfect record, while the varsity team earned an important win against a 4A opponent.

For the junior varsity Lady Trojans, the night was all about teamwork, precision, and poise. They finished their season undefeated at 8–0, shutting out the Jaguars 8–0 in their final match. Leading the charge was Raylee Smith, scoring four of the team’s goals. The remaining goals came from Christine Williams, Avery Farruggia, Melissa Nunez-Ramirez, and Mary Miller, rounding out a true team effort.

Head Coach Amy Carlson praised her players for their focus and execution. “This was by far one of Raylee’s best games of the season,” she said. “The entire roster saw playing time, and it was great to see everyone contribute to such a strong finish.”

The defense also stood tall, holding Desert Pines to zero shots on goal. Carlson highlighted the steady play of Anjolina Mercado and Patience Moore, who have both excelled in the defensive-midfield role. “They provide constant hustle and determination and have been key players throughout the season,” she said. The back line—Kylee Lusk, Melanie Carson, Michell Villalobos, and Bella Ofseur—continued to impress with their coordination and teamwork.

“This group has shown continual growth throughout the year,” Carlson added. “Their chemistry, communication, and confidence are what led to an undefeated season.”

On the varsity side, Pahrump Valley also played with confidence and control, securing a 2–1 win in a hard-fought match. The Lady Trojans dictated the tempo from the start, out-shooting Desert Pines 15–6 and earning five corner kicks. Senior goalkeeper Julie Briggs anchored the defense, making six saves and allowing just one goal.

“Our girls controlled the ball for most of the game,” Carlson said. “They’re finally starting to move it around the field more gracefully. We just haven’t found full team cohesion yet—but we’re getting closer.”

Both of the Trojans’ goals came from Aubrey Williams, who continued her strong season by leading the attack. Her first goal came off a perfectly placed corner kick from Natalia Vallin, which Williams finished with a clean header into the net. The second goal solidified the Trojans’ momentum, and clutch defensive work from Cindal Monahan helped preserve the victory.

“This win over a 4A team was big for us,” Carlson noted. “It gave us a chance to let our starters work out their chemistry, and multiple players contributed to our success.”

Senior Sarah Brown also drew praise from her coach for her relentless energy and leadership in the defensive-midfield position. Carlson said she hopes this win will be the spark her team needs to push toward a postseason run. “Looking at the stats, I think a lot of people counted us out of playoffs,” she said. “But they still have a chance—and I’m hoping that knowledge will light the fire they need. They have the talent; now they just need the drive.”

With both the JV and varsity teams finishing strong on the road, Pahrump Valley’s girls’ soccer program continues to demonstrate the dedication, balance, and heart that define the Lady Trojans.
