Rosemary Clarke Middle School recently held a Harvest Festival Literacy Night, an event designed to bring families together and strengthen their connection with the school. Principal April Sutton highlighted the importance of family engagement, noting it as a key improvement goal for RCMS. “When families are involved in education, students tend to perform higher,” Sutton explained. “We’re hoping to open up RCMS more to the community so they don’t feel so shut out.”
The event featured a fall theme, with literacy activities and opportunities for parents and students to interact with teachers and staff in a fun, relaxed setting. Classrooms throughout campus were set up with various activities for the families to participate in through various interactive stations. The event included games and activities, providing families with a chance to enjoy the evening together.
Additionally, the art program hosted an art contest, where attendees could view and vote on their favorite pieces. The winning pieces will be named at a later date. The band and choir also performed throughout the night for people to enjoy as they moved between event stations.
Sutton shared that Literacy Night is just one part of the school’s family engagement initiative. RCMS plans to host a second family night in the spring, themed as a “Spring Fling,” which will focus on math. “We want to create a welcoming environment where families can be a part of their students’ learning journey,” Sutton said.
The Harvest Festival Literacy Night left families feeling more connected to the school and excited about the ongoing partnership to support student success.
