The Rosemary Clarke Middle School cross country team earned three medals at the Larry Burgess Invitational in Henderson on Saturday, Sept. 26, before returning to Pahrump for several top individual finishes at Lakeview Executive Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The two meets gave the Sharks opportunities to compete on different courses as they prepared for their final race of the season. At the Larry Burgess Invitational, hosted by Basic High School, runners navigated a 1.5-mile course through campus grounds, turf and sidewalks before finishing on the stadium track. The middle school fields included 171 boys and 149 girls.

Seventh-grader Paul Clouser led the Rosemary Clarke boys, finishing 23rd in 10 minutes to earn a medal. Eighth-grader Ozias Ofseur also medaled, placing 29th in 10:16. In the girls’ race, seventh-grader A’riyah Ruffin earned the Sharks’ third medal with a 29th-place finish in 12:29.

Monica Littau followed just two seconds behind Ruffin, placing 30th in 12:31. Sierra Eichner finished 43rd in 12:51, giving the Sharks three girls among the first 43 finishers.

Emma Fields completed the course in 14:26 for 79th place, followed by Charlaine Maurillo in 98th at 15:21 and Brooke Menjivar in 102nd at 15:26. Delilah Haver, Sophia Maurillo and Anabella Ramos finished within six seconds of one another, with Haver taking 111th in 15:49, Maurillo placing 113th in 15:52 and Ramos finishing 114th in 15:55.

Gracelyn Goodbeau placed 127th in 16:53, while Maddlyn Scott and Scarlett Quezada each recorded a time of 16:57, finishing 129th and 130th, respectively. Scarlett Blumer followed in 131st at 17:05, and Abriella Oryem completed the girls’ lineup in 132nd at 17:09.

For the boys, Edward Shemp finished 95th in 12:23, and Conner Nelsen placed 113th in 12:57. Matt Cruz took 130th in 13:42, followed by Marzelo Nunez in 140th at 14:17 and Parker Johnson in 142nd at 14:29. Noah De Santiago finished 151st in 15:30, Pierre Oryem placed 156th in 16:27, and Jacob DeSantiago took 170th in 19:26.

Three days later, the Sharks raced closer to home at a weekday meet hosted by Pahrump Valley High School at Lakeview Executive Golf Course. Rosemary Clarke competed alongside two visiting middle schools, running on a portion of the high school’s 1.86-mile course.

Clouser and Ofseur led the boys’ field with a first- and second-place finish. Clouser won the race in 12:42, while Ofseur crossed the finish line in 13:11.

The Sharks placed five boys in the top seven. Shemp finished fifth in 15:12, Nelsen took sixth in 15:25, and Nunez placed seventh in 15:54. De Santiago followed in 11th at 18:11, while Cruz finished 12th in 19:27 and Johnson took 13th in 19:29. Oryem rounded out the boys’ results in 14th at 21:24.

Littau led the Rosemary Clarke girls at Lakeview, placing second in 15:11. Ruffin finished third in 15:29, and Eichner followed in fourth at 15:35, giving the Sharks three of the top four finishers.

River Carson placed sixth in 17:03, Ellie Allen finished eighth in 17:07, and Menjivar took ninth in 17:35. Their performances gave Rosemary Clarke six girls in the top 10.

Haver finished 12th in 17:53, followed by Sophia Maurillo in 15th at 18:00. Charlaine Maurillo and Goodbeau each finished in 19:17, placing 18th and 19th, respectively. Scott took 20th in 20:09, and Fields finished 21st in 20:16.

Ramos placed 22nd in 21:14, followed closely by Abriella Oryem in 23rd at 21:17. Blumer finished 24th in 21:39, and Winter Perez completed the Sharks’ lineup in 25th at 22:32.

The Rosemary Clarke program thanked PVHS coaches Erik and Bryce Odegard and Lakeview Executive Golf Course for hosting the meet and providing an opportunity for the middle school runners to compete in front of local families and supporters.

The Sharks will conclude their season Saturday, Oct. 3, at a meet hosted by CSN at Floyd Lamb Park in Las Vegas.
