The Pahrump Valley High School girls’ varsity basketball team continued tournament play at the Gator Winter Classic on Saturday, December 27, taking on Sunny Hills in their second game of the weekend at Green Valley High School. Facing a disciplined opponent with an aggressive press, the Lady Trojans leaned on hustle, defensive effort, and steady leadership to battle through four competitive quarters.
Sunny Hills struck first from beyond the arc, but the Lady Trojans answered with strong individual efforts. Riley Saldaña attacked the basket early to get the Trojans on the board and followed with rebounds and trips to the free-throw line as Sunny Hills applied consistent half-court and three-quarter pressure. Aurora Bowers also drew multiple fouls while driving, helping Pahrump Valley stay aggressive offensively despite the press limiting clean looks.

The second quarter saw the Lady Trojans find more rhythm. Kaitlyn Brown knocked down a three-pointer to spark the offense, while Autumn Colon stayed active on the glass, rebounding an Ella Odegard shot and finishing inside. Saldaña continued to lead the attack with strong drives and finishes, including a smooth jumper and a late basket before halftime that helped Pahrump Valley close the gap and carry momentum into the break.
After halftime, Sunny Hills returned to its three-quarter press, creating challenges, but the Lady Trojans continued to compete. Saldaña opened the third quarter with a block on the defensive end, and Colon came up with a steal that led to points in transition. Late in the quarter, Saldaña scored again inside before a technical foul sent Sydney Crotty to the line, where she calmly converted both free throws.

In the fourth quarter, Pahrump Valley kept attacking despite the pressure. Saldaña scored on consecutive drives and spin moves in the lane, showing persistence and confidence, while Colon added a late steal and calmly knocked down two free throws after being fouled on a layup. The Lady Trojans continued to push the pace and apply defensive pressure until the final buzzer.

While the final score favored Sunny Hills, the game provided valuable experience against a pressing, high-tempo opponent. Pahrump Valley showed resilience, shared scoring, and steady effort throughout the contest—key takeaways as the Lady Trojans continue to grow and compete through the remainder of the Gator Winter Classic and the season ahead.
