Westfield Jewelers, A Legacy of Family and Community

Josh and Darbie Westerman, the dynamic duo behind Westfield Jewelers at 1360 W. Matthew Lane in Pahrump, are no strangers to entrepreneurship. As serial entrepreneurs with a successful track record, they previously owned and operated Quality Signs before venturing into the jewelry industry. Their latest business, Westfield Jewelers, reflects their deep connection to the community and a commitment to preserving tradition. The store’s name is a thoughtful combination of their last name, Westerman, and the last name of the previous owner, Marty Greenfield, who founded the store in November 2010. With a foundation built on Marty’s decades of experience with major corporations like Zales, Josh and Darbie have infused the business with modern marketing techniques and a personalized customer service approach, ensuring that Westfield Jewelers remains a beloved fixture in the community.

The decision to take over the jewelry store was not just a business move; it was a significant step in their personal and professional journey. “A lot of it had to do with mental health,” Darbie explained. Running their previous business, Quality Signs, had been a learning experience, but the long hours and intense demands began to take a toll. “I was alone a lot, and it wasn’t good for my mental health,” she added. This realization led them to sell Quality Signs—at a profit that allowed them to invest in Westfield Jewelers. The decision to move into the jewelry business was a leap of faith, but one that has paid off both financially and personally.

Taking over the store meant more than just learning about jewelry. It was an opportunity to modernize and expand the business while staying true to its roots. Josh, who had apprenticed under Marty for several years, brought a fresh perspective to the store. “We helped a lot in the marketing and then once we fully took over, we emphasized everything,” Josh shared. This included a complete remodel of the store, making it brighter and more welcoming, as well as rebranding it to reflect their new vision. “We also opened it up a little bit, and almost everyone that comes in says it looks really great,” he added.

Westfield Jewelers is known for its wide range of services, from jewelry repairs to custom creations. “We can fix or build anything as long as it’s silver, gold, diamonds, platinum—whatever it may be,” Josh said. The store’s ability to create unique, custom pieces sets it apart from others in the area. For example, they recently transformed a couple’s family heirloom rings into a pendant for their granddaughter. “It was something unique that you would never see,” Josh noted, highlighting their commitment to preserving family memories in a modern, wearable way.

In addition to their craftsmanship, what truly sets Westfield Jewelers apart is their connection to the local community. Josh and Darbie have lived in Pahrump for nearly two decades, and they take pride in offering “hometown hospitality.” Darbie emphasized this, saying, “When you come in, you’re not going to find somebody who has no connection to the town. We were quite literally built from this town.” This deep connection to the community is reflected in how they treat their customers, with Josh noting, “I treat everyone the same, and I give my full attention to the person right in front of me.”

Running a business in a small town has its challenges, but for Josh and Darbie, it’s also deeply rewarding. “The best part about having the jewelry store is being able to restore pieces that hold so much sentimental value for people,” Josh said. The emotional reactions from customers when they see their heirlooms restored to their former glory are what make the hard work worthwhile. “I’ve had a few people cry and give me a hug, saying they’ve never seen their piece look like this,” he added.

Despite their busy professional lives, Josh and Darbie remain connected with their high school friends and the local community. Darbie is part of the committee planning their 10-year high school reunion and notes how their group of friends has grown closer over time, particularly as they navigate similar life stages such as building careers and raising children. “We all started having kids, and it’s been really nice to grow together as parents and continue supporting each other,” she shared.

Looking to the future, Josh and Darbie hope to expand their business even further, possibly moving into a larger space and bringing on trustworthy employees who can help them continue to serve their community. For now, they remain focused on providing quality service and maintaining the strong ties they’ve built in Pahrump. “We try to give back a lot because if it wasn’t for the community, we wouldn’t be here,” Josh said, reflecting on their commitment to the town that has supported them throughout their entrepreneurial journey.
