The Pahrump Valley High School (PVHS) Trojans football team secured a commanding 42-14 victory over The Meadows on Friday, October 18, setting the stage for their highly anticipated rivalry matchup against Boulder City next week.
The game began with the Trojans asserting control early. After forcing a quick four-and-out, PVHS took possession on The Meadows’ 24-yard line. Just one minute into the game, Carter Nygaard powered through the defense on a 10-yard touchdown run. With the extra point by Aaron Rily, the Trojans went up 7-0 with 10:30 left in the first quarter.
The momentum continued as Kayne Horibe connected with Lucas Gavenda on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 4:22 remaining in the first quarter. Another extra point from Rily extended the lead to 14-0.
A turnover on downs by The Meadows handed PVHS another opportunity. Horibe wasted no time, delivering a touchdown pass to Randall Murray, making it 21-0. The first-quarter fireworks didn’t stop there—Ethen Hutchinson broke away on a catch-and-run to push the score to 28-0 before the quarter ended.
With 8:27 left in the second quarter, Horibe found Murray again on a lateral pass. Murray sprinted 45 yards into the end zone, extending the lead to 35-0. The Trojans’ commanding performance led to a running clock for the second half.
The Meadows managed their first points late in the third quarter, scoring with 1:05 remaining to make it 35-8. However, the Trojans responded swiftly in the fourth quarter with Hutchinson’s second touchdown catch, bringing the score to 42-8. A final touchdown from The Meadows concluded the game, but it was too little, too late. PVHS secured the 42-14 victory.
Coach Thomas Walker praised his team’s balanced performance, “Kayne Horibe threw for five touchdowns and 190 yards. Carter Nygaard ran for two touchdowns. The defense played great as well. The 14 points we gave up were with the backups and some JV players at the end of the game. I’m proud of the boys. With that being said, it’s Boulder week. We are preparing for our rivalry game with an intensity not seen by many!”
Defensive Coach Mike Colucci echoed the sentiment, “Our boys did what they needed to do on Friday night. We came out on the first possession, handled our business, and didn’t look back. I’m excited to see what our boys are capable of to finish their regular season and going into the postseason.”
Offensive Coach Toby Henry also commended the team’s execution, “I thought our guys played a very efficient game. On offense, we did what we needed to do to get ready for a great rivalry game versus Boulder. We have gotten better every week, and this is the time of year where we need to start peaking.”
With the win, the Trojans improved their record and set their sights on their upcoming rivalry game against Boulder City. The intense preparation and high stakes make it a must-watch showdown as PVHS looks to finish the regular season strong and carry their momentum into the postseason.
