The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans boys’ basketball team kicked off their season on Monday, December 2, with a hard-fought game against the Chaparral High School Cowboys in Las Vegas. While the Trojans ultimately fell 49-41, the game showcased the team’s marked improvements and set the stage for a promising season under first-year Head Coach Braydon Preston.

Alejandro Lozano led the Trojans’ offense, putting up an impressive 13 points. Tramaine Burras also added 10 points while Antwahn Jackson also made a notable contribution, scoring 7 points and playing with intensity, though foul trouble limited his minutes. Coach Preston commended the team’s effort and emphasized the strides they have made since last season.

“I think, positively, we’ve gotten a lot better since last year,” Preston said in a post-game interview. “Moving the ball and defensively, I think they’ve gotten so much better—not turning their backs and stuff like that.”

Despite the improvements, Preston identified areas for growth, particularly in boxing out and maintaining a fast-paced offense. “We went on a run there for a little bit when we started pushing the ball,” he noted. “Then we started slowing it down and playing back to our old habits. So, we just have to break those old habits.”

One bright spot in the game was the performance of Caden Briscoe, who came off the bench to provide a spark for the Trojans. “I want to give a shout-out to Caden,” Preston said. “He showed tremendous offensive stuff, running the floor, and his defense picked it up as well.”

Preston also praised the team’s collective effort, particularly given it was their first game of the season. “I think overall as a team, we played pretty great for being our first game.”

The Trojans demonstrated grit and resilience against a tough Chaparral squad, and their performance signals a season of growth and determination. As the team works to fine-tune their game and build on this solid foundation, fans can expect to see exciting things from the Trojans in the weeks to come.
