The Pahrump Valley High School Trojans opened their volleyball season with a dominating performance at home, securing a decisive 3-0 victory over the Mater Academy East Knights. The Trojans showcased their strength across all three sets, winning with final scores of 25-18, 25-9, and 25-13.
Throughout the match, the Trojans demonstrated their prowess on the court with a total of 47 serve attempts, 15 of which resulted in aces. Freshman Sedona Norton was a defensive standout, leading the team with 10 digs. Offensive efforts were led by Heavenly Ware (Junior), Riley Saldana (Sophomore), and Xeane Kamanu (Sophomore), each recording 10 attacks. Xeane Kamanu topped the night with 8 kills, closely followed by Riley Saldana with 7.
Despite some early nerves, which led to nine missed serves in the first set, the Trojans quickly found their rhythm. With a remarkable performance in receptions—only one error out of 74 attempts—the team displayed their focus and skill.
Head Coach Veronica Montanez praised her team’s efforts, noting, “The game went really well. We were nervous. The first game definitely had nine missed serves just because of jitters, I think. But after the second and third game came along, they were rolling. Lots of beautiful sets. It was great. It can only go up from here.”
This strong start to the season sets a promising tone for the Trojans as they look ahead to their next matches.
