On October 15, 2024, Susan Davila, CEO of Desert View Hospital, was honored with the prestigious Andre “Butch” Harper Act of Kindness Award, recognizing her contributions to the community and unwavering commitment to healthcare. Davila was celebrated for her efforts to maintain a healthy community and the hospital’s ongoing support for local nonprofits, reflecting the spirit of kindness embodied by the award.

The award is named after Andre “Butch” Harper, known affectionately as “Patches,” who was regarded as the unofficial ambassador of Pahrump. Harper was known for bringing comfort to those affected by tragedy, offering patches bearing Pahrump’s name to remind them they weren’t alone. After Harper’s passing, the tradition was carried on by Deanna O’Donnell and Dr. Tom Waters to keep his legacy alive.

“It’s a way to recognize someone and show that their efforts are being noticed,” Ryan Muccio, Marketing and Outreach Director with Desert View Hospital said. “We’re very proud of Susan and all that she does for the hospital and the community.” The honor comes with a commemorative plaque, underscoring the prestige of the recognition.

Davila has been a cornerstone of Desert View Hospital since its opening in 2007. Although she briefly left from 2012 to 2016 to work at a hospital in Northern Nevada, she returned to Pahrump and resumed her leadership role, further solidifying her connection to the community. Born and raised in Montana, and a small-town girl at heart, Davila’s love of Pahrump and dedication to public service extends beyond healthcare. She serves on the Board of Directors for ACORN (formerly CASA) and leads as President of the Board of Directors for Nevada Outreach, a nonprofit organization committed to providing resources for those in need.

The recognition reflects not only Davila’s leadership but also the hospital’s involvement in strengthening the fabric of Pahrump through outreach and partnerships with local organizations. Davila’s peers commended her for her continuous efforts to uplift the community, aligning perfectly with the legacy of Andre Harper’s message of kindness and support.

This award shines a light on a leader whose career has been dedicated to improving lives in Pahrump, both through healthcare and her philanthropic involvement, further exemplifying the values that Harper held dear.
