The PVHS Trojans boys’ soccer team faced a tough challenge on August 29th, taking on Mater East at home. Unfortunately, the game ended in a 0-5 loss for the Trojans, leaving both the players and coaching staff with much to reflect on.

“It was a rough game, ending 0-5 in their favor, with little to no positives to highlight,” said Coach Andrew Norton after the match. Despite the challenging outcome, Coach Norton found a silver lining in the performance of a new defenseman, Elijah Solis. “We started a new defenseman in Elijah Solis, and he was solid. We are going to build on that,” Norton shared. “He actually gets my man of the match as it was a larger ask than any other player on the field, and he stepped up to the challenge, not allowing any large plays against us and handling his position quite well.”

While the rest of the team struggled, Solis’s debut performance stood out. His solid defense and ability to prevent significant plays from Mater East provided a glimmer of hope for the Trojans. “As for the rest, like I implied, it was a rough game,” Norton admitted. “We are still struggling with the basics, and without improvement on basic skills, we can’t hope to achieve the high level of success that we all want.”

The coach emphasized that the team must use this match as a learning experience, urging players to work harder and focus more during practice. “As a coaching staff, we mentioned to the players that we hope they use this game as an introspective moment to realize that harder and more sincere work needs to be put in during practice or else we are just not going to get better,” Norton added. “Let’s hope this goes to heart, and we show up with a deeper desire to actually better ourselves through practice and skill drills.”

As the Trojans look ahead to their next match, they’ll aim to build on Solis’s strong performance and address the areas that need improvement, hoping to come back stronger and more determined.
