The Pahrump Valley High School wrestling team showcased their determination and competitive spirit over the weekend at the Chaparral Invitational on Friday, January 17, and Saturday, January 18. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams gave strong performances, competing against tough opponents and earning notable individual achievements.
On the boys’ side, Ethan Rouse (106) and Oscar Bosket (190) both secured 3rd place finishes in their respective weight classes. Ethan fought through the bracket with a 3-2 record, demonstrating resilience and skill to claim his podium spot. Oscar matched Ethan’s 3-2 record, showing his strength and focus to earn his place among the top competitors.
Other standout performances included Iyan Bosket (175), Austin Alvarez (157), and Paul Walker (165), each finishing the tournament with a solid 3-2 record. Julio Ackerman (Heavyweight) and Billy Sparks (215) also delivered strong efforts, finishing 2-2, with Ackerman displaying his grit in the demanding heavyweight division. Joaquin Flores (126) and Bishop Carter (132) matched their teammates’ tenacity, also posting 2-2 records.
Several wrestlers, including Zach Hulderson (113), Jayden Crisler (144), Ben De Santiago (138), Joey Scheer (113), and Anthony Hunt (Heavyweight), contributed to the team’s overall effort, each earning a win and gaining valuable experience to build upon in future competitions.
On the girls’ team, Payton Weaver (120) led the way with an impressive 4-1 record, securing 3rd place in her weight class. Her determination and skill throughout the tournament were evident, earning her a well-deserved spot on the podium. Tiler Ledford (170) also made a strong showing, finishing 5th in her division with a 3-2 record. Sarah Penner (120) battled hard in her matches, gaining critical experience as she continues to develop her competitive edge.
The tournament was a valuable opportunity for the Trojans to compete against high-caliber wrestlers, gaining experience and showcasing their talent. With multiple podium finishes and strong efforts across the team, the wrestlers left the Chaparral Invitational with a sense of accomplishment and momentum for the rest of the season.
