Serving Generations: Dr. Kim Farrell’s Decades of Care at Family Chiropractic in Pahrump

Dr. Kim Farrell, a dedicated chiropractor with deep roots in Pahrump, has been leading the local practice, Family Chiropractic, since officially acquiring it in 2000. Located next to Nevada State Bank at 1321 S Hwy 160 #7, Family Chiropractic has become a cornerstone of healthcare in the community, serving patients of all ages with compassionate, tailored care. Dr. Farrell’s journey into chiropractic care began with a personal story of recovery and led her to work under Pahrump’s original chiropractor, Dr. Moose Simer, a local legend who had been sent to chiropractic school with funds gathered by the community. When Dr. Simer fell ill, Dr. Farrell stepped in to support his patients and what was supposed to be a six-month position turned into 18 months, and then transitioned into ownership of the practice for the last 24 years. “I never expected to stay for so long, but I fell in love with the community and my patients here,” she recalls, adding that her two-decade-long presence has allowed her to build connections with families across generations.

Dr. Farrell’s educational background includes a Doctorate in Chiropractic from Palmer College in Northern California, where her passion for a holistic approach to healthcare flourished. She also holds a Bachelor of Science with a pre-med concentration from Foothills in Northern California, after initially studying at UNLV. Her attraction to chiropractic care stemmed from her own experiences with injuries and the relief chiropractic adjustments provided, leading her to specialize in family-centered care. “Family chiropractic just made sense to me; it’s an approach that helps from birth through old age,” she explains. In fact, both of Dr. Farrell’s children received spinal alignments within hours of their birth, which she believes benefited their health, sleep, and overall wellness.

Dr. Farrell is dedicated to tailoring her treatment approaches to each patient’s unique needs. She describes how her treatment plans vary from person to person, depending on factors like age, health conditions, and specific requirements. For example, she takes a gentle approach when working with elderly patients or those with osteoporosis, and she avoids certain therapies, such as electrotherapy, for patients with pacemakers. “You have to treat everyone as an individual,” she emphasizes. “It’s about tailoring each visit and treatment to meet the patient’s unique health needs.”

Her meticulous process begins with an initial consultation and full examination. Dr. Farrell’s thorough approach includes vital checks, evaluations, and, when necessary, referrals for additional imaging or consultations with other medical professionals. “Some people want a quick fix, but I always tell my patients that chiropractic care is a powerful tool, and it needs to be handled responsibly,” she says. Farrell believes in fully understanding each patient’s condition before proceeding with any adjustments to avoid doing more harm than good.

Dr. Farrell also offers prenatal chiropractic care, which she considers highly beneficial for pregnant women as their bodies undergo significant changes. With her own experience of receiving chiropractic care during her pregnancies, she is a strong advocate for the practice, emphasizing its role in maintaining alignment, supporting blood flow, and easing the body’s transition during this crucial time. “Chiropractic care during pregnancy must be very gentle, and I always follow the OBGYN or midwife’s guidance, adapting adjustments as the pregnancy progresses,” she explains.

Dr. Farrell emphasizes the critical role of spinal health in maintaining overall well-being. “The spine protects the spinal cord, which connects directly to the brain and impacts every bodily function,” she notes, underscoring that regular adjustments are not just about relieving pain but supporting the nervous system’s optimal performance. For Dr. Farrell, chiropractic care is as essential to long-term health as routine dental cleanings or yearly physical exams. “Think of it as preventative maintenance for the whole body,” she says. “Even if you feel fine, periodic adjustments can help your body stay aligned, reducing tension and improving functionality. Just like we check our teeth and get labs done to monitor internal health, the spine needs regular check-ups to make sure everything is operating smoothly.” This proactive approach is key, she explains, to helping patients live healthier, more balanced lives by ensuring that their nervous system remains unhindered.

Preventative care is another cornerstone of Dr. Farrell’s philosophy. She tailors preventative care programs to each patient’s lifestyle, advising them on nutrition, stretching, hydration, and stress management. “If you have a busy life, asking for daily stretches may not be feasible, so I create realistic, achievable routines that they’ll stick with,” she notes.

In her daily interactions, Dr. Farrell finds joy in the relationships she’s cultivated with her patients. “I’ve learned so much from them—about life, kindness, and resilience,” she shares, appreciating the sense of community she’s fostered. Her dedication to listening to her patients’ needs, whether they’re children, athletes, or seniors, has solidified her reputation for offering compassionate care. “Every patient has a story, and every interaction teaches me something,” she reflects, underscoring her approach of treating patients as individuals.

Though she once participated in health fairs and other community outreach, her focus now remains within her practice, providing individual consultations and encouraging open communication during visits. “People come in to talk, to understand their health options,” she says, “and I prefer these one-on-one connections over general workshops because it allows me to give them personalized advice.”

Dr. Farrell acknowledges the trends she’s observed in recent years: an increase in inflammation-related conditions, stress, and aches, often stemming from modern sedentary lifestyles and extended screen time. She sees a growing number of children with neck pain and headaches due to prolonged use of digital devices. “Aligning the spine and promoting good habits are essential to counteract these effects,” she says, recommending physical activity and breaks from screens for young patients.

Running a busy practice and balancing her own wellness is no easy feat, Dr. Farrell admits. She stays mindful of her own health by following her advice to patients, though she jokes about her occasional indulgence in chocolate chips. With two children and a bustling practice, her self-care involves regular chiropractic visits, exercise, and hydration. “I try to give myself the same advice I give my patients, and I know it’s not easy to follow all the time,” she laughs, admitting that she, like many of her patients, strives for consistency.

Dr. Farrell credits much of her practice’s success to her dedicated team, whom she describes as “the best staff in town, unequivocally.” Her staff members share her commitment to patient-centered care, working hard to ensure each patient feels welcomed, heard, and valued from the moment they walk through the door. “They’re here to support our patients every step of the way,” Dr. Farrell explains, highlighting how her team acknowledges wait times, accommodates schedules, and creates a warm, friendly atmosphere. The staff’s attention to detail and genuine care help cultivate an environment where patients feel comfortable and cared for, making Family Chiropractic more than just a healthcare facility—it’s a place of community and trust.

While she can’t claim what sets her practice apart from others, Dr. Farrell believes her team’s dedication to quality care and patient-focused service is central to their mission. Her staff strives to make each patient feel valued, accommodating their schedules, and ensuring they are treated with the care she would offer her own family. “We’re here to help, to listen, and to make sure each patient gets the support they need,” she says. Dr. Farrell’s practice remains a steadfast source of healing and wellness for Pahrump, providing her patients with the expertise, care, and community connection they value deeply.
